We visited the Western Wall, the Western Wall Tunnels and the holiest sites in Judiasm, Islam and Christianity. And then we started exploring the 4 quarters of the City. We thought we might spend 1.5-2 hours at the museum, and we would plan the rest of the day on the fly. We walked out of the museum 5 hours later - 15 minutes before the museum closed for the day. - Karen WLong Island, NY12 contributionsI find this site to be most interesting on Friday night when it is visited by many culturally different Jewish people. It may be most crowded at that time. It is important to be respectful at that time. Sleeveless tops should not be worn at any time should you want to approach the wall, although shawls are usually provided. - Tom WBasye, VA240 contributionsThe Mount of Olives. It conjures up pictures in our hearts and minds of Jesus praying and the disciples sleeping on that fateful Thursday. The Mount offers a view of the Old City that orients you to what you will see there.

Jesus Christ crucified and taken down from the cross, anointed on the stone.
Visit the grotto of nativity and tome of Jesus such a moving place, words don't describe this place. The tour was extremely informative and our guide was top notch. - Karen WLong Island, NY12 contributionsI liked Mahane Yehuda more than some of the other markets in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. It was wider so much easier to walk through and a little less chaotic. I did not view it as a tourist trap. Yes, it was a good place for tourists but it was also a good place for Israelis to shop for food and household needs. It was also near Jaffa St and Ben Yehuda which are also good shopping areas. I actually was unable to find some of the touristy souvenir items I was looking for. I wanted to purchase some spices and found that even when you say a specific amount, you will be given far more than you want. Be ready to bargain and tell the vendor that you don't want so much. - DayTrip2951194 contributionsPopped in here to see the light show on Saturday to find out the museum was free that day until 16:30. It is basically open ruins of king herod’s Jerusalem palace and great views of the city, though some of the stairs were challenging for my 70 yr old mom. It was an unexpected pleasure to meander through the ruins with very few people there!

The mount is controlled by Muslims and hours of visit can vary, especially on Fridays. Definitely check with your hotel or other sources before you go. It is best to come 30 mins before it opens as there's usually a line to enter the mount. The line starts near the Western Wall. Some women are given shawls to cover up, but enforcement seems spotty. There are 14 stations on the walk, cobblestone & steps ( slippery ) in some places. This is a tourist area with many shops so it gets very busy also beware of the small vehicles traveling along it.
