- Karen WLong Island, NY12 contributionsThere is too much to say about the Old City especially since there are too many areas. If you are in one of the shuks (markets), always be ready to bargain. The pathways and alleys can be really confusing. Fortunately, the signs are all in Hebrew, Arabic and English. Be ready to go through TSA type of scanners and to answer questions when you go to the Kotel (Western Wall) and you should try to dress appropriately as this is a religious area. There are several gates you can go through to enter the Old City. - David P1 contributionShai hooked us up with Avi Biran and Michel Kahn, who were both terrific tour guides, especially for children.
Avi showed us how to eat carob seeds in Beit Guvrin/Eleutheropolis/Maresha and reminded us that Elijah the Prophet was said to have a
survived on only carob seeds and water for months.
My 9 y/o son loved it when Michel surprised us by dressing up as King Herod at Masada; I also loved discussing with Michel the possible causes of the destruction of the Ein Gedi synagogue 1400 years ago.

- Watchful26Carlsbad, CA96 contributionsOur May 2022 tour with Aviv Herzlich of Aviv Tours actually started in September 2021 when we interviewed several tour guides for our upcoming trip. We found Aviv to be interested in what we wanted to do in Israel (rather than telling us what we should do), flexible concerning the itinerary, and full of practical advice. Aviv was also patient with our many questions before and after we selected him to be our guide, and he was available for advice and assistance while we were in Israel during times when he was not actively guiding us. In addition, Aviv enlisted the assistance of his friends and colleagues to guide us through their areas of expertise. We found Aviv’s colleagues to be as knowledgeable and personable as Aviv and they contributed positively to the overall experience.
Most importantly, Aviv handled his own trip logistics (rather than outsourcing to a 3rd party firm) and he used his relationships to schedule specific activities within the itinerary (e.g., Druze and Bedouin hospitality events, jeep tours in the Golan Heights and in Makhtesh Ramon, and wine tasting).
We toured through Israel’s northern coastal area, the Galilee, Golan Heights, Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, Makhtesh Ramon and Sde Boker, Shefla, Sderot and Tel Aviv with Aviv Tours. All along the way, Aviv provided hotel and dinner restaurant suggestions and reviews, and he made reservations for us when a phone call was required because there were no online options. For lunch each day, Aviv took us to “locals places” that we probably would not have found by ourselves.
Aviv took what we expected to be a great visit to Israel and transformed our journey into something that was so fabulous that we have yet to find words that adequately describe our sentiments and appreciation for his knowledge and efforts. Aviv’s combination of knowledge gained from his life experience as a native Israeli, his university education, his talent as an educator, his friendly personality and his years of guiding recreational, religious, corporate and other tours resulted a tour that was filled with historical and cultural information, rich descriptions of past and current events and a beautiful mosaic of how historical events that have occurred over 2,000+ years transformed into Israel and the Middle East as we know them today.
If you're planning to hire a tour guide in Israel, contact Aviv early in your planning stages and hope that he's not booked for your dates. This was among the best tours we have experienced anywhere. We stayed in the old city so we could “walk where Jesus walked” 2000 years ago. It was an awesome experience, and touring with Dvir in the old city of Jerusalem made it even more special! We walked to all the holy sites and felt very safe all along the way. He seems to know everyone, both Jewish and Arab people we passed - and they obviously knew him - adding to our feeling of safety. Shop keepers even gave gifts to us when they saw we were with Dvir (when have you ever had that experience when touring abroad?) We left Jerusalem spirituality blessed and with a good friendship. We have learned that the expense of a good tour guide is a must if you want to really experience a foreign environment. Maayan took us on a deep dive of the old city of Jerusalem in a way we had never seen it before. We spent the entire day exploring every corner and quarter of the old city from the Temple Mount to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, We explored all four quarters in detail including the Via Delarosa, the Cardo and areas of the Shuk where tourists rarely venture. Maayan knew every square inch, it's history and significance, and he also seemed to know every vendor in the shuk. He took us to stalls where we bought spices, great halva and even a hot local drink called Sachlev which was great on a rainy day. He was interesting and engaging and we really had a great day. Tal really knows Israel's beautiful tour locations extremely well. The Christian tours are treated with respect, presented with Biblical significance, as well as an understanding of what our faith means to us. Her knowledge concerning many difficult subjects of Christianity was exemplary.
She also took us to very reasonably priced restaurants of excellent food selections.
My husband and I toured Israel 6yrs ago with a different tour group/different tour guide. We thought he was good.
This trip was soooo much better! We learned much more than what our previous guides shared.
And being on the cusp of Covid 19, she took extremely good care of us. She provided masks, sanitizer, and the ability to change course when facing heavy tour group traffic in Jerusalem that were not being "safe". She also helped change our itinerary when Bethleham, the West Bank, and a few national parks were suddenly closed because of the virus.
She geniunely cared enough to check on our health once we were back in the U.S.A.
She also put together ZOOM tours for us when got back home, to cover some of those locations that had been closed!
Tal is an amazing tour guide.
Michigan groups will be back.

The guide was great, funny, well informed and dealt with all the ages in the group without missing a beat. The dig was fun while we learned about history, the process of excavation and putting all the pieces together to build the story. Most of the tour was in well lit caves so the heat wasn't much of an issue. - Daran RSprings, NY2 contributionsCan’t imagine there’s anyone better. My wife and I returned from 10 days in Israel with Henry as our personal guide, driver and quickly, new friend. Henry uses every minute to educate and explore the deep history and traditions of Israel. Comfortable discussing alternate views or religious interpretations. Punctual like a Rolex, thoughtful like your grandma, knowledgeable like a history book, intuitive like a mench. Henry anticipated our every need. He knew what would interest us the most, he listened and answered all our questions with patience and clarity. He made every effort to ensure we learned, we saw, we cried and we smiled.
Henry’s English and pronunciation is perfect. Never did I miss I word or struggle to hear clearly what I was being shown. Henry quickly learns your likes and dislikes and adjusts lunch, rest periods, random stops and lengths of sites based on what he sees.
Henry knows when to back away and let you gaze, or jump in and fill in the blanks.

Our tour director, Lital, does a incredible job. She is knowledgeable and very personable.

The day before we realized that the public bus from Jerusalem to Ramallah was not running as normal, probably since the israeli authorities had closed the border for palestinians during independence day. As we really didn't want to miss out on a visit to Ramallah during our trip we started to search the internet for options and found out that green olive had a Ramallah/Betlehem tour scheduled for the day after. This was like 9 pm so when we tried to book the tour we got a massage that it was fully booked - which of course was understandable. About one hour later we got a message from Jehanne telling us that two people had cancelled the tour and that we were able to join. And we are so so so happy that we were!!! If we had travelled by ourselves we would never have gotten even close to the experience we had that day with our guide Mohammad, who described the daily life under occupation and pointed out things for us that we never even would have noticed without him. I tend to loose focus when listening to someone for a whole day but this time I wished he never would stop talking. This is without doubt the most interesting tour I have ever done and an absolute must if you are visiting Israel and Palestina. Don't think (like we almost did) that you will be able to do this on your own - you won't.
