Elephant Mountain is part of the hills surrounding the city. We didn't find out how it got that name. It is a very steep climb to the summit, by a series of steps of varying height and depth, fortunately under the shade of trees. I had to rest frequently on the way up (I am a reasonably fit 70-ear-old). It must have taken 30-40 minutes to ascend, and my Fitbit showed a height of 177m. There are a couple of viewpoints, the main feature of which being Taipei 101. We saw one man climbing the mountain on his hands and feet, backwards!
It must be a hard slog on hot days! Refreshments are available at the top.

The entire area around the square is impressive. The Memorial Hall stands out, though, and has several floors of exhibits, most of which are related to Chiang Kai-Shek. The exhibits overloo some of the negative aspects of his life but I learned a lot. Seems like a must see sight in Taipei.

some of the best Chinese artifacts, art and history to be seen, well worth a visit. An easy half day venture. We rode the buses to get there which was fun navigating.

We took metro to the XianShen Station to see the world famous 101. We took pictures of 101 from afar and walked about 7 mins to the building. There is a shopping mall in 101. The top 2 level of the malls are for luxury brands. The second and ground level are stores of popular brands. Food court is at the basement level. You can walk to the metro station from the basement level.

We didn't go to the observation deck this time as we went there 15 years ago.

The Gondolas are a pleasant getaway from the city, and quite close and easily accessible. You just take the MRT to the Taipei Zoo Station, then walk a bit to the Gondola entrance, which accepts your Easycard. My food tour guide from the day before recommended I ride all the way to the top, then make stops on the way down.

There are 2 types of cabins, Regular and Crystal. Crystal cabins cost more and usually have a longer wait; they have clear plastic bottoms. Frankly I don't think you see much through the floor except for trees and other vegetation; most views are through the side windows.

There are 3 stops. The top stop is Maokong Station. Many folks come up here to walk/hike. There are numerous tea shops around also, plus I think a tea farm.
The next stop down is the Zhinan Temple stop. There is a photogenic pagoda just outside the station; the temple is a short distance away. Alas, I did not have time to visit the temple.
The other stop is the Taipei Zoo South Station, where I did not get off.

I boarded the gondola shortly after opening and there was no wait. By the time a returned to the base, there was a huge line on the boarding level that extended down to the entrance level. It was a beautiful Sunday, plus the gondolas were to be closed for over a week for maintenance starting the next day.

A nice experience, but time your visit to avoid long waits.

This is a religious place of worship covering several deities. Centers on Buddhism , although it is said to cover Taoism as well . Look at the leaflets. Covers any wish that you wish to happen. Reminder is that you cannot have your photo taken with the Gods they revere. The fountain near the entrance is a sight to see.

We booked a driver for 6 h via klook for a direct pickup from hotel ( The driver only contacted us the day before at 3 pm after his trip) . The first stop was at lengshuikeng - a small lake with steam coming out from the surrounding rocks as well as two foot baths.
Next stop was flower clock . We were so blessed to catch the cheery blossoms and flowers in full bloom .
Then there was xiaoyoukeng where you get to see steam bellowing out from the small crater.
We then went for a hike from Lengshuikeng visitor centre to Qingtiangang. The hike was 1.8 km walking on rocky footpaths and climbing many many steps passing a swinging bridge. I would not recommend this hike to those with bad knees .
At Qingtiangang, we were greeted with a fog that reduced visibility to almost zero .
We then proceeded to zhiuzihu to have a traditional chicken lunch but as it was a public holiday , all restaurants were full. So we did not get to try the chicken nor see the calla Lilly’s but our driver brought us to a famous beef noodle restaurant instead near the hotel .
Overall a wonderful trip with Leon as our driver.
Tip: do not go to yangmingshan if it is raining .
This was our third trip and was the only trip where we saw the beauty of this mountain . All the other times , it was fogged up .

I really enjoyed the zoo. It it a good size zoo and have diverse collection of animals from around the world. Not as big or diverse as the San Diego zoo but glad I visited. BTW, the panda area actually has two "viewing areas" one indoor and one outdoor. Clean bathrooms which was not a surprise. Even the food selections inside (I had the chicken bento box that came with soup) were delicious and such great value compared to the zoos I have visited in the US. Worth a visit if you like animals and have the extra day to spare.

Lastly, it was really easy to get to the zoo. Took the train with one transfer from the main train station. You get off right next door to the zoo.

Always neat to get the bird’s eye view and this didn’t disappoint. The 89th floor has 360 degree viewing through windows. Cameras are much better at taking pictures through glass, so this was great. Lots of room to move around and not hard to approach windows. We were there early.

Up the stairs to 91st floor for open viewing, though frankly it wasn’t a much better view. If the weather not cooperating, stay on 89 and you’ll really not miss anything.

Staff very friendly and helpful - a well run operation.

Was a bit hard to find. Language barrier. Finally found but is ok. The free dip pool needs swimming costumes and appeared ok. We passed didn't bother.

This place is huge with a number of different buildings and various altars. All of the structures have detailed, artistic woodwork and there is a lot of variety. The temple is also very active as a lot of people were praying and burning incense when we were there.

We saw this and the nearby Confucius temple that is less than a block away. The two temples are quite different and we were glad that we went to both.
