This was one of the most colorful part of our trip. If you are a photographer, I'd say take a whole day, because you'll be stopping a lot. The colors, the panorama. Delightful.
We also came across 3 dudes on bicycles. Which is absolutely crazy. Especially due to the temperatures.

Daan Viljoen Nature Reserve is an expansive natural haven with wild (though not dangerous) animals, making it a safe destination for hiking.

We embarked on the 9 km long, well-marked Rooibos Trail, weaving up and down gentle hills and small rocks in a savannah-like landscape. The trek takes approximately 2.5-3 hours, requiring ample water and perhaps a light snack. Hiking shoes or boots are recommended.

Surprisingly, we encountered no fellow hikers along the way, and wildlife sightings were moderate. However, the 5 km drive from the park's entrance to the reception offered glimpses of giraffes, wildebeests, monkeys, and turtles.

Rooibos Trail is suitable for anyone in reasonably good shape, with a difficulty level ranging from easy to moderate. The entrance fee is remarkably affordable for both guests and vehicles.

Located approx. 45 mins from Windhoek, Naankuse is a large farm with an Activity Centre offering experiences for day trippers as well as on-site lodging.
Overall, the Caracal walk was thrilling, however it was everything else that made this experience feel lacklustre.

I had booked the Caracal walk several weeks prior from Australia and asked about transfers from Windhoek. I received an email stating they don’t offer transfers but try this taxi service. I emailed the taxi service and never heard back! Next, I received an email from Naankuse stating I would have to pay in full prior to arriving. No problem, I set up an account with OFX and transferred the funds the same day. Several days later I received a confirmation from Naankuse.

On arrival at the Activity Centre, after organising a private driver from Windhoek, the staff were cordial but far from welcoming. I was asked to fill in a form and then arrange payment immediately. I explained I had already paid and provided the email confirmation. A short time later, the staff informed me I had overpaid so I organised for the driver to enjoy a coffee while I was out on the walk. Then I was directed to watch a PR video on Naankuse before heading out with the Ranger.

The walk itself was fabulous! Misty, the caracal, was a fascinating creature, curious and alert. I was blown away by her features and those ears are extraordinary. It was a wonderful 1.5 hour walk learning about this unique animal.

It’s important to get the whole experience right, not just the main attraction ie the Caracal walk.

Avis dam is a wonderful spot to exercise you family dog. Well maintained with poop scoopers on hand to keep it clean for others. I assume one of the best places to walk you Fido. There were also a lot of waterfowl around. Pelicans, cormorants, Little Grebe and some Egyptian geese.
