David was extremely friendly and a very knowledgeable guide & artist. We learnt so much about the generations of artists. We enjoyed our visit very much as first time visitors to Harare. Thank you

My wife and I traveled to Tengenenge by rental car and stayed the in their guesthouse for US$40 for the night. Robert Murengwa, the manager, helped us plan the trip and was quick to respond to messages (in spite of very limited cell coverage at the site), Agrippa Tirigu, one of the local sculptors, cooked our meals, and Stella Gutura, the local preschool teacher showed us around and made us feel comfortable.

I previously visited Tengenenge about 20 years ago while living and teaching in rural Zimbabwe and since that time it has been hit hard by Zimbabwe's economic problems and the decline in tourism throughout the country. However, the sculptures are every bit as amazing as before and for about US$100 we brought home a collection of easily packable beautiful gifts for our friends. These sculptures are all unique, unlike what's for sale in many of the Harare markets, and some of the first generation of sculptors from the 1970s are still active. If we’d had more cash on hand and didn’t live so far away I would have loved to bring home some of the bigger pieces.

The accommodation is rustic and not recommended for those who demand luxuries like hot showers and fancy bedding. But if you're open minded, want to experience life in rural Zimbabwe, and interested in getting to know this fascinating community, I highly recommend staying in the guesthouse and not just making a day trip.

Shipping can be arranged as can payment by bank transfer but it's simpler if you have extra luggage and extra cash. You're definitely going to want to bring home more sculptures than you originally planned for.

Lastly, the road can be a bit confusing. Robert Murengwa met us in Harare and navigated for us, but I have now added the location to Google Maps at 16°43'51"S 30°56'41"E which may help with navigation for those self-driving.

They are no doubt the best rose nursery in the City, maybe in the country. They have the widest range of roses, maintained to the highest quality and offering rose care advice as well. Their only downside is that sometimes no-one is manning their sales desk sometimes. i had to leave without purchasing anything in August which was a pity as I wanted to increase my rose garden from what I already got from them before. As an out-of-towner, I had to travel back to arrive before dawn.

This is Zimbabwe's major trading market for fresh vegetables and fruits. It's the distribution centre for agricultural produce in Zimbabwe and you won't beat the prices anywhere! The experience is incredible - very busy.

We also found beautiful, world-class, artistcally-crafted and hand-made products of all sorts - from dresses, to shoes, sculptures, artwork, jewellry, etc.

There are also home improvement, farm and building materials available.

This quality art gallery focuses on mixed media and avant-garde works by cutting-edge Zimbabwean artists; it's located in the Doon Estate complex. Its name translates to 'monkey' in Shona, in reference to the vervet monkeys that run amok in the area.

This shop is amazing! You can get great gifts for everyone back home and you get to take a little piece of Africa with you! And can you believe it is all made from recycled car batteries! I am slowly filling up my house with unique bits and pieces every time I go back to Zim!

Apologies for a late review. I stumbled across this little wonderful place whilst on holiday and I was looking for some unique, different gifts to get for friends. It's in a residential area (Mount Pleasant). It's a place where there is something interesting and eye-catching at every turn. They have the most beautiful range of hand-made soaps at very affordable prices. You can find something for every gender and age. We were also lucky enough to have some coffee made by Musani (hope I got that right) and was delicious. Apparently he also makes some mean cakes which you can get to taste on Fridays. I got a ton of gifts for friends which I gave away, all except a little duck soap which I think is too cute to use. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to go to their 'Friday Flower Day', not enough time. Highly recommend a visit and some tea/coffee there.

I bought a dress, three pairs of earrings, two wine bottle carriers, a CD--was there more? This beautiful shop is deceptively packed with sustainably-supported artisan-crafted homewares, clothing, jewellery and covetable objets. The quality is high and the original designs very refreshing. The service is assured. I checked out the crafts stores at the airport later the same day and they're fine if you've been time-poor during your stay in Zim, but a trip to Mustard Seed in Mt Pleasant definitely satisfies on a much higher level.
