What travellers are saying
- Marina HMiami Beach, FL22 contributionsWe went to Haleakala in the middle of the day. Not sunrise nor sunset and it was breathtaking! We did not have to deal with reservations and there was very little traffic to and from the crater summit. Parking was plenty and easy.
It was a beautiful day and this site is not to be missed. The views are unreal and the feeling of being above the clouds is magical.Written 4 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can walk to Whalers Village for dining and shopping, again an ice cream and come back to the beach.
The water was very warm and inviting, but it gets deep very quickly, so not great for little kids. little snorkeling or wildlife compared to other beaches in HawaiiWritten 6 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - AnnaLena423Deerfield Beach, FL4 contributionsSo glad I chose to add this to our excursions! The trip was both entertaining and informative. It did not feel commercialized. It felt like a true family-owned business, personable and full of history and culture. It held the attention of my 3 and 8 year old kids, and the grandparents with limited mobility were able to comfortably participate as well (couple steps up and down a bus and standing for max 10-15 minutes at a time at several stops.)
The pineapple itself is absolutely delicious. My extremely picky daughter suddenly fell in love with Maui Gold pineapple (she hated pineapple before.) My father in law was so enamored he requested more for Father's Day (and we happily obliged and had two shipped to him.)
We were on the NCL Price of America cruise but booked this trip direct and I heard after the fact that booking through the cruise you don't get the souvenir pineapples. FYI - YES you can take them on an airplane (we were able to fit our boxes under the seat like carryon.)
The gift shop had some great items, food and otherwise, for purchase. And there is a highly recommended restaurant across the street (we didn't get to go as it didn't work with our timing.)
I would highly recommend this company!Written 17 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Be careful and mindful when driving. Locals use this road for their daily commute and you may see them driving faster than you, pull over and let them pass. We started from the airport, which was a 30-minute drive to Mile Marker 0, once we got to Hana which we were not that impressed with what it had to offer the drive straight back on the road took 2 hours. There are restrooms available along the drive, and the halfway to hana stop along with other stops beyond the halfway spot had food carts available. We pulled off at stopped at Coconut Glens for coconut ice cream and a coconut and we happy we did. If you have several days in Maui and aren’t restricted to driving this road on a specific day, try to do it on a day when cruise boats are not docked in port, less crowds and people on the roads.
There is minimal cellular service on this road. We predownloaded the Shaka app tour for $20 which was a live saver. It pointed out all the mile markers, gave some history to each stop and facts. Best part is we didn’t need cell service as it tracked us via GPS which was great because we had no cell service the whole day!Written 5 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Our driver/guide Marlon was fantastic- quite entertaining and knowledgeable. The sunrise did not disappoint- absolutely gorgeous and our breakfast at The Mill House was great! - SabesPittsburgh, PA80 contributionsWe loved this hike but needed a rest day afterwards as we are a couple in our upper 60's. Rocky with lots of roots. Some climbing and some level areas. At the end you do have to walk through a narrow, rocky stream but by that time our hiking shoes were already wet and muddy. Just loved the scenery. Several waterfalls, a gorgeous banyan tree and a very unique hike through a bamboo forest. 4 miles round trip. Up to final waterfall took us 90 minutes and coming down almost 90. We took our time. A little muddy because we had a brief rain shower but, again, take your time and watch your footing and enjoy this unique hike.Written 28 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Moochie-La-LaCalgary, Canada702 contributionsAlbeit small, this beach has absolutely everything: mild waves, snorkeling, beautiful sand, bathrooms, showers to rinse off, free parking (get there early, it has limited number of spaces). If you don’t score a free space, there is a paid parking out next door, equally small, for $20USD for the day. You can also find street parking but be prepared to walk.
This beach is ideal for families, snorkelers, etc. There is so much fish and coral variety; expect to see eels, turtles, urchins, cucumbers…Written 28 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GreekipinaArvada, CO399 contributionsWe stopped here on our first night to watch the sunset and it was amazing. Parking was easy and there were lots of families with little kids wading in the water. The waves were lapping softly and the night turned beautiful golds to blues to purples. It was the perfect way to start off our vacation. Several days later we stopped here on our road to Hana and the whole beach was speckled with TURTLES! We had thought they were rocks! It was fun to watch the surfers as well. Great beach with lots of activity.Written 21 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - nicole_chelliNew Haven, CT838 contributionsOn the Road to Hana and Mile Maker 32 you need to have reservations in order to enter the park. Reservations are available in 2.5 hour time slots throughout the day. It is $5 per person plus a $10 entry fee if you are driving a vehicle. Reservations are available 30 days in advance of your desired visit day and must be made at least one day in advance. They do sell out so I would book as soon as you can. At the park they had a lava tube and a blow hole in addition to the iconic black sand beach. There were porta potties and rinse off stations available. Beach is a bit tight, tighter when the tide is in. There as a lot of smooth rocks which were painful on the feet, especially when trying to get in/out of the water, if you have water shoes, here is a good place to wear them. The water was a bit rough so be careful to those who are not good swimmers. You can hike up to the blow hole which overlooks the beach. When the waves come in, it travels up the lava rock and sprays viewers, that was fun. We had a great time here and spent the whole allotted time here. If you can’t get a reservation or forgot to and happen to be traveling to The Big Island there are additional black sand beaches there.Written 5 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Takako CVentura, CA15 contributionsI had both tasting and food pairing and I’d definitely recommend doing both! Out tasting guide Patrice was very friendly and fun. Their spirit was very tasty. I’m not a gin drinker at all, but their gin was so tasty I was very surprised that I was enjoying the taste.
After the tasting, Jack the sommelier took me to the private area with shades (thank god! It was a hot day) for the food pairing. You get two pupus and two drinks to pair with, and a desert and a drink. You also get to pick one flat bread pizza. Everything was so delicious and I learnt that most of the food are from the farm. The whole experience was really amazing. I’m so glad I did both!Written 5 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
