Waimea Canyon Waimea
#1 of 124 Nature & Parks in Kauai
We have been to Hawaii and done hikes all over the Big Island, in Volcanoes National Park, Northwest shore on Maui as well as hiking into Haleakala crater, but the Garden Island evaded us until this year.
An absolute Kauai MUST! Beautiful curvy, climbing road with stop-offs to park and walk to the canyon's edge.

Na Pali Coast State Park Wainiha
#2 of 124 Nature & Parks in Kauai
Viewing the spectacular cliffs from the water in fast, comfortable boats afforded us a perspective on this natural monument that was a perfect compliment to our earlier hikes thru the park.
Go early and park before the crowds and walk into Hanacapia Valley ... if energy allows walk to the Falls and enjoy the peaceful yet energetic huge beautiful Falls !

Waimea Canyon State Park Waimea
#5 of 124 Nature & Parks in Kauai
Breathtaking views from every overlook, Kope'e State park has some great, short trails, I recommend the Pihea overlook of the Na Poli coastline; only a mile and absolutely out of this world beautiful.
Once into the park proper, you will pass a variety of lookouts (many with public restrooms), with each offering a unique perspective of the magnificent canyon and the waterfalls.

You cand try and park right at the mouth of the trail up by Ke'e beach but slim chances- theres a larger lot a little further away and you just walk up more- but this lot also gets extremely full extremely fast!

I’ve hiked quite a bit (Grand Canyon, Zion and Arches National Parks) but this has been my favorite!
If you continue on the trail you'll come upon the Makauwahi Cave Reserve, a 17 acre creative park that belongs to the Grove Farm Company where hikers are welcome to come through.
Koke'e State Park Kekaha

Without a doubt we would recommend Kokee State Park for anyone looking to for a nice drive up the canyon road, easy access to overlooks with amazing views and also for anyone looking for some nice hiking.
Koke'e State Park is also home to the Kalalau lookout which affords spectacular views of the Kalalau Valley and Pu'u O Kila lookout that affords even better views of the Kalalau Valley along with views of Mt.

Makawehi Lithified Cliffs Poipu
#14 of 124 Nature & Parks in Kauai
The thing I enjoyed most about this tropical nature hike was each cliff and each side of the cliff was a little different from the next.
We ran every morning from the Poipu Beach Park, out past the Hyatt, to the horse stables and got on the cliff trails and ran back to Shipwreck Beach and home for a 8-10km loop.

Tanji had a great number of factual historical tales to tell, with many interesting facts about the garden and specifically, the incredible world of nature, truly worth a few hours.
I recommend the guided tour so you can learn about all of the different species of plants, the specially designed water gardens that work because of gravity, the giant trees where parts of Jurassic Park was filmed...

Hanalei Beach Hanalei
#17 of 124 Nature & Parks in Kauai
The beach has lovely golden sand, and the park itself has some picnic tables, a few shade trees, and the usual contingent of chickens and doves, with the added bonus of Pacific Golden Plovers.
The surf is too rough in December and January for swimming and body surfing, but there are the beach parks, the pier and kayaking on the nearby Hanalei River.

Kuilau Ridge Trail Kapaa
#18 of 124 Nature & Parks in Kauai
Spent a lovely couple of hours on a moderate hike along the ridgeline with great views on either side and lovely places to stop and simply enjoy nature and the scenery.
But it is very beautiful and lush, it's like you are walking in the Jurassic Park, very worth the hike.
Hanalei Bay
#19 of 124 Nature & Parks in Kauai
If you get the chance take a helicopter ride to see the whole Island including the spectacular waterfalls, places where Jurassic Park and Pirates of the Caribbean were filmed.
It's quiet and a place to relax with a picnic and enjoy nature.

Pali Ke Kua Beach (Hideaway s Beach) Princeville
#20 of 124 Nature & Parks in Kauai
... cream was a nice stopover on the way back from Waimea canyon (1.5 hours from Princeville) where a little trek around the nature trail just after milestone 8.5 was just enough to keep the kids and parents happy.
This was great because we were able to complimentary Valet park at the hotel and then a very short walk out of the driveway to Hideaways.

A beautiful house also near where you park that is stunning.

Poipu Beach Park Poipu
#22 of 124 Nature & Parks in Kauai
As with many of the beach parks in Hawaii, Poipu Beach Park has an expansive grass area with plenty of shade, a couple of shaded pavilions and several picnic tables, including barbecue grills.
We saw a giant sea turtle and lots of fish while snorkeling with my 8yo! Kids also loved the park and we enjoyed ice cream and lunch across the street.

#23 of 124 Nature & Parks in Kauai
Over the course of six days I was able to snorkel shore-accessible Kauai reefs and rocks at Salt Ponds State Park, Poipu Beach Park, Larsen's Beach, Anini Beach, and Haena (Tunnels) Beach.
The parking lot fills up fast as it is used for the Haena Beach, and many hikers who do the 22 miles round trip hike to Kalalau Valley park here as well.

Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens Kilauea
#30 of 124 Nature & Parks in Kauai
We are gardeners; so maybe our hearts appreciate this magical place and the work it do doubt took to bring it all together; but the combination of whimsy and nature combine to make this a most memorable place.
With acres of different kinds of gardens and a sculpture park there is plenty to see.
