A quick stop here to document your Belize visit for a social media post is a must. Take a pic from behind the palms adds character and depth.

This Mayan ruin is about 45 minutes from Belize City. Make sure you bring water, wear sun screen and if you are walking to the pond wear bug spray. The flat walk to the pond is about 10 minutes and the mosquitoes are vicious. We saw a crocodile in the pond. There is a little open air museum and bathrooms before you enter the ruins. You can walk up the ruins and it’s very scenic. The steps are very steep so be cautious. For the best pictures, get there early before the cruise ship tourists arrive. The “gift shop” was a bunch of locals selling trinkets.

As had been the case at the national museums & national palaces visited elsewhere in South & Central Americas (with or without actually being called as those for history), it was my initial expectation of this museum to be one for the national history but which instead turned out to be some "multi-themed" kind of museum with yes history as one of the themes (specifically the colonial history with an "emphasis on slavery" as can be learned from a number of big info displays & also to see some text-and-sketch depictions of piracy in the colonial time) but also including non-history themes from modern art (not too impressive of a collection of "small paintings" though) to Mayan archaeology (just fairly few artifacts in scattered glass cases) to ecology as relating to birds & insects which are native to the country (some different species in limited numbers but some stuffed birds quite impressive to look at) with each theme just kind of "lightly touched on", I would say, so just not much time is needed to cover the two levels of this museum. And so actually, more than by the pretty average interior, I was impressed by an "outward grandness" of this long rectangular heritage-styled building with a nice lawn in front for a great view from either end of the building (definitely on a smaller scale but generally in a similar style as the Palacio Nacionals elsewhere in Central America such as those of Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala & Mexico).

And not too close to this museum but just on the same side of the Creek are "2 landmarks" of the country, namely Baron Bliss Lighthouse & the colorful 'Belize' sign (at a "serene location" right by the sea should not be missed for some great pics not just with one but with both landmarks in "the same pic"). .

We were very impressed by how organized, punctual and effective they are with their passengers, luggage and everything else they transport to and from the islands! The boats are not big, so they can be harsh on the back in rougher seas like we had on the way to San Pedro. The way back was smooth and relaxed.
When booking a round trip online, you don't get you choose a return date and time. This can only be picked upon checkin at the terminal. We found out though, that if you email them beforehand mentioning your rountrip reservation, they can reserve a specific date and time for the return for you. This was very important to us, as we were 4 with luggage and needed to be on a specific ferry back to the mainland...

We only went to the restaurant here. It was an easy place to stop and park and had good food and drinks. We did not visit the pool /beach area, but it looked very fun, so a great place to stop if you had kids.

This was something I never thought I would do but am glad I did it. The tour guide was absolutely amazing - calm, patient, and considerate. He was a good speaker and we all had an excellent time.

Just one of a "modest stature" is how I would describe this brick cathedral (with not two but just one tower and no high & wide front facade or such) but which yet is a charming one which I would say is also in part due to its "nice & neat" grounds (mainly a small lawn but also like a mini-garden with a pathway along the edge which goes all the way around the Cathedral). And yes, after the walk around the building & taking a peek inside from the entrance was just heading back out due to the admission (which I never had to pay on my cathedral visits except at some big cathedrals with museums & such inside which I'm quite sure is not the case inside this one).

And actually just across the street from one side of this cathedral is the Government House which is a 2-storied beautiful heritage building with a spacious front lawn & a not-too-high lovely fence (but closed to public at the time due to some renovation or such going on). And also nearby, at just about a 5-minute walk from this cathedral (by heading back along the street between this cathedral & the Government House in the direction of downtown but a right turn shortly after leaving) is the waterfront area like a "long promenade" from which there's a view of both the Creek & the sea beyond (from near one end of the promenade).

The children will like it because it's more of a pool than anything. Good music and relaxing area. The slides need to be resurface cause they cut you a little.

In a nice quiet area of the city (though not far from downtown at just about a 10-minute walk from here) is this about-medium-sized lighthouse which is not much of a remarkable structure in itself but one I'm sure is a "distinct landmark" of Belize; and just in a very close vicinity to this lighthouse is also another national landmark which is not just a simple sign spelling out the name of the country but one consisting of nice-sized letters each with a different color; and yes quite a nice photo-op is one with both the Lighthouse & the Name Sign along with the "wide-open sea" right behind them (by standing beside the Name Sign and taking the pic in like a diagonal position with the Lighthouse at the back). Also likely a good timing or such was being here at about 3 or 4 pm when the sea was like "a sheet of silver sparkles" created by the afternoon sun as seen after going up the short stone wall near the Lighthouse (really somewhat of a "unique scene" I would say to enjoy from this relaxing location with actually also like a cafe just across the street from the Lighthouse although not having tried it myself).

And not right next to it like the 'Belize' sign but just at about a 5-minute walk away from this lighthouse is a memorial park or such (a "somewhat sizeable" rectangular lawn area) with some few cannons & national flags and also a number of these "small multi-colored" structures likely some storage facilities (and a good view of the park from the small round-shaped pavilion or such on the lawn).

Be sure to stop and do these 2 hikes. The first is a challenging “straight up” hike to a valley lookout. This hike is steep and challenging so you will earn your waterfall swim afterward. Then go to the waterfall for a quick chilly swim – so refreshing after the lookout hike. The rangers are super friendly and helpful.

The swing bridge connects the north side of Belize City with the south side and spans Haulover Creek, a tributary of the Belize River.

The spot we went to snorkel, off the island, was very choppy and we didn't see as many fish/coral as we have other places. It could've just been the day.
The manmade island is pretty, but the swimming and snorkeling on the island is not ideal. The water is chest deep and not clear. The food is ok and the bathrooms smell.

You can see many starfish and collect lots of shells as you walk around! They have a full bar and serve coconut water as they collect them from the palms. The boat ride back to our ship made this trip! Between the drinks, entertaining staff, music and dancing, we had a good time.

I didn't want to go here because I heard a lot of stories about going in city but we tried it and survived. Area is very small and not much to see. It was amazing though to see how they set everything up differently. If you want to see it and not afraid of the city's stories then go see.
