- MengkysanCheltenham, UK187 contributionsIt's not realistic to call this "very good" as per the star rating but it's also unfair to rate it average with only 3 stars so 4 stars it is.
Cicada market is only open on (and please check this information) Friday and Saturday although there were plenty of people trying to convince me it was open on Thursdays too.
Cicada market is a large, open air market with loads of food options, music and entertainment. It's perfect to wander around looking at all the stuff you'll never buy and then grab a bite to eat, a 100 Baht draft beer and people watch as music from various directions drifts around you.
everyone who goes to Hua Hin and stays for the weekend, goes to Cicada market and Thais love to travel from Bangkok to Hua Hin for weekend fun and this can make it quite crowded.
Acceptably overpriced but an interesting way to spend a few hours.Written 11 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Mainly fast food around of all the types, Thai, western, eastern, sweets.
Music is always there, mainly good, but sometimes too loud.
I think last year the choice was better. For family with small kids like our it’s from time to time overcrowded

Sunbeds on beach nice and quiet, better than hua hin IMO.Written 11 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - nathalie d9 contributionsHua Hin is pants for shopping because it's mostly catering for beachy hippy dippy types. There are way too many shops around the beach, on the night market and in market village, selling frilly garish coloured tents type garments and it's 90% polyester central. Bluport is also selling all that tat as well but at least it's got a few other stores on the first floor selling modern stuff. The best part about Bluport is the wednesday fleamarket . It's huge and there are also local sellers selling a big variety of snacks. Thankfully the tourists haven't quite yet discovered it. The clothes sellers are local people and all very friendly and the prices are super affordable. I've found some super vintage pieces there. I hope the mall gets more popular because it's well laid out, not too big and it's clean and airy unlike market village.Written 11 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MengkysanCheltenham, UK187 contributionsOne of the least likely places to find a monk in Thailand is a Wat (Temple). They can be found in shopping malls, mobile phone shops, 7/11 and so on, but a temple...not so much and Wat Khao Krailart is no exception.
Climb up some steep steps and you'll be treated to a fairly large temple complex that is very interesting to wonder around. It's quiet, often with a breeze and provides quite a good view of Hua Hin.
If you are lucky, you can find some "travellers" with man buns and rasta dreadlocks sitting in the lotus position in front of one of the Buddha statues, thumbs and middle fingers touching and wrists resting gently on either knee, eyes closed: at one with Buddha.
If you are unlucky, you can poke your head into one of the temples and have tourists posing in front of a large gold Buddha statue, flashing the victory sign - not at peace with Buddha.
Not large numbers of tourists but a small and constant flow, which makes up for the evasive Thai Buddhist monk. There are signs they probably live there, or they want us to believe they live there but the only Thais I saw were gardeners and possibly the worlds slowest paver.
Well worth a visit to wander around and then grab a seat on one of the benches that offers great views.Written 11 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We went up to the temple and give a little donation and the nun let us choose hand-made bracelets from a bowl.
We enjoy the quietness other than the occasional monkey fights.
We explored the area and took many beautiful photos. We slowly walked back to Hua Hin and had lunch at Nautilus Restaurant which is inside Kundala Beach Resort - you can dine and enjoy the beautiful sea. After food, we walk down the beach. Too bad we were not in our swimwear to enjoy the beautiful beach.Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - RIchard035Northwood, UK1 347 contributionsThe Siam Statues are absolutely huge and worth a visit. They are slightly outside Hua Hin so, if you don't have a car, the best way to get there is by Grab (the local version of Uber). The taxi will drop you off at the visitors center where there are a few shops. There is then a regular and free shuttle bus to the statues. They are located in vast square in the middle of the park. You can by drinks and snacks there, take the shuttle bus back to the visitors center and book a Grab back to wherever else you want to go.Written 19 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - The_Traveler010710Shah Alam, Malaysia3 109 contributionsOne of the place to visit in Hua Hin. Very magnificent, detailed, huge kind of statues of Thai's previous kings.
Remember to bring umbrella or bring a cap/hat when visiting this place as there's no shades nearby the statues.Written 27 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 無名World9 893 contributions...close to Wat Khao Takiab and Wat Khao Krailart which makes for a wonderful day out exploring temples in the area. This one looks to be the newer of the three. It's quite large and seems to be a work in progress. I walked the whole grounds. At one point some dogs were on the verge of attacking me until a monk chased them away. Nice guy. What else happened here? I did get a second meditation in on the day. This time, there was somebody else there meditating as well. And I didn't have turn on my phone to listen to some chanting, there was actually a live monk doing some. It is very unusual that I meditate with other people. Always thought extremists do religious practices in groups: pray, meditate, chant, whatever. In my opinion, people who do such on their own are more sincere about it. Other than that, nothing spectacular to report here. Looks like a big community temple that has lots of facilities for people to come together and gather. I'm never involved in any of that I guess.Written 22 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
