Well this was an amazing place so unexpected. I didn’t even know the place was there and when talking to one of the local ladies who had been extremely helpful to us in giving us directions, even down to escorting us to the area we wanted to go to, I asked what the interesting looking building was and she explained it was the Jackie Clarke collection. We returned next day to visit the place (as we were on a time restricted visit to Ballina) and were pleasant surprised. It has to be the best museum on social history, so many things to read and see, artefacts of many types and a wonderful short film on the history of the man. The staff in the museum were so lovely, very helpful explaining lots about how the museum began, they were very knowledgeable. For anyone interested in the social history of Ireland, 1916 and the civil war, I would urge a visit, Ballina is very lucky to have been able to keep this is the town where it all began. So many things go up to Dublin! So all in all we met some fantastic, really helpful, friendly and knowledgable people and worth a revisit in the future. J A Murray

I couldn't disagree more with the previous review, I visited this week and found the centre to be fantastic with lots to see and do!

On arrival we were given a tour which told the story of Father Peyton. Nicki (who gave the tour) was fantastic. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to view the 30-minute video of his story but will definitely return to do so.

There is a beautiful café and you can walk the gardens which are very picturesque, I believe there is ongoing works there encorporarating the stations of the cross, and before the café there is an area where you can purchase souvenirs, local books and religious items.

On a Tuesday there is a community group that visits, so if you are seeking a quiet visit its best to go on a day outside of this. During the summer months there are events for Irish traditional music, and the centre is a great base for walking the Attymass Loop Walk.

The centre forms part of Mayo's unique religious heritage, alongside Ballintubber Abbey, Knock Shrine and Croagh Patrick. Highly recommend a visit if you are in the area!

This is a small heritage centre with quite a few exhibits. It is worth a visit if you are in the area
