I have always really wanted to visit this venue but have never managed to make it. We decided to come on the opening weekend of the Christmas experience. I was so excited to finally see the house as I have done a lot of research prior to my visit. The house looked so beautiful decorated for Christmas, but unfortunately there was no audio guide during the Christmas season which was a huge blow for me to be honest as it was the history that I was really going for. The house was amazing though. The Christmas market was very festive and really lovely, we enjoyed a couple of hours meandering around all of the stalls. All staff members are really friendly. It did feel a bit like a convey about moving through the house so, there was no time to really spend enjoying each room Before you moved onto the next. I would really like to return in the spring or summer when the audio guide is working.

Highly recommend to park at Miller's Dale Station when venturing out to Chedale
    (The Stepping Stones)
The access from Miller's Dale Station into the valley is a much better way round of doing the circular walk
The parking at Wye Dale is extremely limited for parking spaces as it's the car park used for customers hiring from Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire and the access from the lay-by is dangerous due to an extremely steep slope
If taking personal bikes to do the trail parking is best at Hassop Station where there is ample parking and two free of charge fields allocated to park throughout the day
    Hope this helps

A real gem, so old and quirky, beautiful rooms and stunning gardens. Really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back.

Adam was a fantastic tour guide and we had a great trip here as a couple touring the house and its grounds. The tour came with a cream tea included and the cafe was a warm welcoming place to enjoy it

Excellent beers with a huge range to satisfy everyone. Thornbridge don't just make Jaipur India Pale Ale.
Also freshly made and very very good Pizzas to order.
Only downside at the moment is the area is being developed so finding the tap room was a bit of a trial. New signage is about to be installed.

The River Wye is an attractive river that flows through the centre of Bakewell. As well as being able to view the river from the bridges, there are very pleasant riverside walks on both sides.

This is a brilliant museum, which you must visit. We were greeted by a lovely, welcoming lady and given an introduction to the museum and it's history. Then we were free to explore and read the interesting information. The way the house has been maintained is exceptional and some of the rooms are set out how the people of the time would have lived.
We have visited many museums, in many towns and cities over the years, and this one truly was far better than most of them. A very enjoyable hour.

The first thing to say in a review of this church is that the photo that is at the head of the TA posting is of a different church. Now - moving on.

The location of All Saints is on a grassy hill overlooking the town and the area, with an abundance of old stone cottages, is possibly the nicest part of Bakewell.

As I approached the church the octagonal (although I didn’t count) tower was the feature that drew my eye, but although there is considerable age and history surrounding the church, the tower and much of the main building were actually rebuilt and/or restored in the1840s.

The church was originally founded in 920 during Anglo Saxon times and there are two 9th-century crosses in the churchyard. The Anglo Saxon cross is missing the top part but the 8 foot high shaft has some very interesting markings.

In the baptistry the most interesting item is the font which dates back to the 14th century, and at the other end of the church I liked the relatively simple reredos which consists of a marble carving of the 12 Apostles under a relatively modern representation of the crucifixion.

In the sanctuary you can also find a triple sedilia and double piscina dating from the late 13th century.

The overall feeling here is of a rather grand building that seems far too big for the size of the town, and this clearly reflects its historic role as a Minster for a much wider area.

Staying in Buxton for a holiday and came across Magpie Mine on Google maps when looking for local sites to visit and what a gem it turned out to be. Even more interesting thanks to the notice boards read that John Taylor the engineer was involved. He also engineered the Tacistock canal in Devon near to where we live. Spent an hour or so looking over the well cared for site and found it well worth the visit. Amazingly it's free to visit, would have a gift shop and entrance charge if it was in Cornwall. 😄😄

My Dad's day can be made or ruined by a scones. He absolutely loves them and he can be dissaponted easily. The man has eaten many a scone in many a place and in his words he had the best scone he had ever eaten from the cage here. Outstanding!

A hidden secret, a series of small pools filled with wildlife. When I was there in June I saw a coot family, morehen family and numerous duckings.
A steep sided gourge and widening out at the bottom, stream running the full length with a dedicated swimming area at the bottom.
I visit this place each time I stay in the area, and the kids love it to, it being a short walk and lots to explore.

Very pretty little garden that's nice to sit in for a rest whilst walking around Bakewell especially when it's nice weather. Well kept and beautiful.
