The museum is located in the old Borsalino factory. The museum's heart is the display of thousands of hats in pristine condition, from the factory's beginnings in 1857. Hats for men, women, and even some hats for catholic clergy are displayed. You can get a recorded guide in English or other languages. The hats are all from the sample rooms of the factory, over the years, and are absolutely beautiful. Also included is a video about the Borsalino factory, and its influence on Italian style. Makes you want to wear a classic hat all the time, like my father used to do. A word of caution, however. The museum is open only at certain times, usually Saturday and Sunday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Best to call the Tourist Information Bureau in Alessandria (800.116667) or email at info@aspal.it.

This cathedral isn't very old, 19 th century, but the original was built in the 13 th century. The inside is very ornate but worth a visit if you come to Alessandria.

A beautiful single-arched bridge. Wonderful views of the river and nearby Citadel. The sleek, light design is great to photograph with different backdrops depending which way you turn.
Worth walking across to or from the historic Citadel.

The battle of Marengo in 1800 was one of the earlier and greatest victories of the Napoleonic forces over the Austrian army and sealed the fate of Northern Italy. From here, Napoleon rapidly conquered Milan, Paviam Stradelly, Piacenza and occupied Lombardy. The Marengo museum in Alessandria provides a detailed description of the battle, the history leading up to it and the consequences of this victory. The museum stands at the site of some of the major encounters between the two armies.

Palazzo Vetus is located in the central Piazza della Libertà, its construction dates back to around 1170. It had the function of Broletto in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, therefore the center of political, administrative and judicial life of the medieval town. After many vicissitudes in 1856 the Municipality of Alessandria ceded it to the State made it the seat of the guard of the Division Command. Until 1995 the building housed the Presidio and the Military District and, from 1 September 2012, it became the headquarters of the Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria Foundation which fully financed its restoration. The building has lost many of its original characteristics, the last restorations have however brought to light numerous architectural elements from the Middle Ages including one of the two courtyards surrounded by a portico with pointed arches, a trifora window and various vaulted ceilings and covered with frescoes including the one depicting the first representation of the coat of arms of the city of Alexandria: a red cross on a white background. There remains a precious testimony of the foundation of the municipality of Alessandria.

I visited this small and cozy church one morning, it is placed in the main street of the city or the so called ''Corso Roma'' and easily recognizable being a small church nestled between two buildings.
Even the interior is really very small, some painting and a few statues but nothing more. I think even a visit of 5 minutes is sufficient.

Some interesting paintings with Alessandria connections. The palace building itself is at least as interesting as the contents though.
