Traditional style history museum. The content is very good if you get the English guidebook and follow along. I most enjoyed the section on Fridtjof Nansen and the Fram "drift" attempt at the north pole. They should add some of Nansen's amazing diplomatic / humanitarian history too. Roald Amundsen section was good as well but almost too detailed and didn't cover some of the controversial subjects - not unexpected in his home country. The books on sale at the museum can fill in details if you want further reading.

The museum came highly rated to visit, and for most of the exhibition it was quite informative.
A bit of a mix between geology and history which was not expected.
However we spent about 3.5 hours in the museum, and the staff were quite helpful.

Had the most fun at this science centre with my boyfriend. The exhibits are great for kids and adults who are young at heart. We had a lot of time to explore the activities with very few other people around and then enjoyed the magical show at the planetarium which explained all about the Northern Lights and gave us a pretend experience incase we didn’t see them in person.

This place was actually really cute and fun! What a cool “extra” thing to do with a cherry on top in Tromso! The stories inside are fun. Kind of reminded me of Lord of the Rings books. Plus you get some cool photo opportunities and they actually show pics of trolls out of rocks throughout Norway and the history and “story” that goes with it. Super fun!

If the weather is bad this is not a bad place to spend an hour or so. Interesting stories to follow.

I liked this place, but my husband wasn't too interested. Some of the artwork was really interesting and I enjoyed it, some of it I didn't quite 'get'. Still, it was worth a visit.

I visited this Gallery Today. It was awesome. This gallery has some fantastic original art work in display including coffe mugs, water flasks. Must visit when you are in Tromso. Much better than some so called most popular souvenir shops in Tromso. You can collect a memory of Tromso from here. I could not stop myself from buying one lovely Tromso Artwork. Highly recommended.

You can really find inner peace by looking at Miss Slydahl's art. She is an amazing artist! And a warm person!

I was looking for lovely gifts to take home with me, and hit the jackpot at this gallery/craft store. I purchased items from U.S. $9.00-$50.00 including handthrown pottery coffee cups, handblown glass bulbs, greeting cards, glass hanging ornaments, two lovely prints from a local artist (with whimsical sayings in Norwegian) -- I spent U.S. $250 in an hour, and bought about 8 items -- everything was happily bubble wrapped securely for the return flight home without my even asking, the shop assistant was lovely to chat to and gave me her expertise as I pulled together an eclectic mix of gifts for myself and for my family. I was over the moon upon leaving the store -- I could have spent a lot more money as there were so many gorgeous items (some things were much more expensive, ranging from around 100 krona - 3000 krona.

Worth a visit to see what is on show, they were showing a number of films when we visited that were of varying quality/interest but that is what makes art interesting and individual. Stick your head in to see what is on it's certainly worth it as it's free.

Excellent museum about geology, climate and culture that's part of the university but not on the main campus. I spent most od my time on the Sami culture and WW II (life in the North during that time) exhibits upstairs along with the Aurora Borealis display. To do the entire museum justice I needed about 2- 2/2 hours but I also like to read all displays so someone else can easily go thru in about 90 minutes. Great little gift shop as you enter. If you intend to visit the Polar museum you can get a discount for both places so at a minimum bring your receipt. Very reasonably priced and well worth it.

Interactive exhibits and lots of interesting things to learn. Free entry is always a bonus.

I learned more about salmon than I previously knew was possible.

Decided to visit this shop after visiting a glass blowing factory in Finland. Arrived right before they closed. Recommend this if you’ve never watched the professionals.
