Obidos is a very attractive small town witha wealth of picturesque alleayways and small dtreets with plenty ofsmall shops and bar/restaurants. Good for an amble on a warm day and with plenty of shade. It has an imposing looking castle which was not open when we were there. Obidos is noted for its cherrries in liqueur served in small chocolate pots which are delicious but need to be eaten with care. Worth a visit and maybe a one night stay to enjoy the quieter atmosphere in the evening.

Large and imposing medieval castle which unfortunately was not open when we were there. However it is possible to walk up to and around the walls though it is not an undertaking for anyone with mobility or vertigo issues!! Best viewed from a distance perhaps though thereare great photo opportunities.

You enter the town through this gate. It's well worth slowing down to look at it more closely. When we went through there were two young men singing and playing music.

A nice addition to the permanent attractions within the city walls, and we found some good value souvenirs to take home.

It's the main street of Obidos so fairly touristy. You can taste the local sweet cherry liqueur from some of the shops here - Ginja. Well worth a try. For more of the character of Obidos try some of the side streets.

We did stop and take photos as this old church is posed to great advantage in an open town square. Sadly it was not open so we could not go inside to see the reported lovely tile work.

Quiet, beautiful, birdwatching, seemingly endless paths to walk, areas to boat, sailboard, paddleboard, swim and fish.

Our bus passed this impressive aqueduct, just outside the walled city. It crosses part of the valley and is very old.

Standing on its own, this church is impressive just from the outside. It has a rounded centre which makes it more unusual. Inside the church has an amazing alter built from marble in many different colours, and a large tiled fresco. Well worth a visit.

The second-biggest church in town has a good plaque outside that explains its history in brief. Sadly it was not open so we were not able to assess the interior.

This is a big old church at the end of a beautiful street. The church currently appears to be a book store. It would be nicer as a church. But the building is still very nice.

Has a huge array of books from floor to ceiling with racking made from crates. A must see when visiting.

This little pillory sculpture is old and there is a plaque in this big open square that explains its significance. It is a part of an ensemble of history.

The second largest church in this small town is nicely displayed in a somewhat open square. There is a plaque in front of it. Not open at noontime when we visited.
