- Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands3 938 contributionsVery pleasant square with a large variety of historic buildings dating from the 1500s to art-nouveau early 20th century. Of course the Waag (weighing house) from 1528 stands out.
Unlike Rotterdam or Arnhem the city escaped major destruction during WOII. With a population of just over 100,000 inhabitants, Deventer has kept its laid back Dutch style ambiance and does not feel as 'cosmopolitanized' as the major cities in the west of the Netherlands.
Biggest improvement: the square is car free since 1993. So lots of terraces and space except for market days.Written 5 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The trees were so incredibly beautiful and laid out so lovely it was glorious. It takes very little time to walk around but if you stop and really immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and smells of the place you can happily give your soul a boost and fill an hour or two.Written 20 October 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - dleung57Toronto, Canada418 contributionsIt's like like you are in a fairy tale, so beautiful. Especially now the tourisum is still not fully back to NORMAL. We can enjoy the peaceful scenery.
We rent a boat but the direction and road sign is UNCLEAR so by the time we found the place, we lost almost an hour of our two hours ride. Also the canal is pretty narrow, if you have to avoid bumping into the other boat, the whole time is quite annoying.Written 3 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Just visit. And the restaurant, lovely, lovely atmosphere, great food and good wine. Prices ok at around 15/20€ a meal and €20 + for a bottle of wine.Written 14 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bsaswataBasingstoke, United Kingdom89 contributionsNice 1 hour tour of Giethoorn, with some nice commentary laden with info and humour alike! Quiet way to spend an hour and see some amazing houses, canals and then the lake. Would definitely recommend tourists coming here for a day or staying.Written 25 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Adrix82Antwerp, Belgium35 contributionsWe booked a 2hrs guided tour through the hotel . The guide was friendly but honestly the 2 hour tour is just too long and boring . It felt like a waste of time . A one hour tour is more than enoughWritten 12 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
