What travellers are saying
- BellBoy53Brisbane, Australia610 contributionsUnfortunately it was an inclement day however this meant the site was deserted so the natural beauty of the rocks and ocean could be enjoyed in peace. Pity about the rubbish on the beach.Written 27 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Keng LHomer Glen, IL1Â 380 contributionsWe took a tour offered by our cruise ship of Mount Etna and Taormina. Went up the mountain to Crateri Silvestri where a restaurant is located. The craters are just behind the restaurant. Relatively easy walk up to the craters. Opposite the restaurant is a more challenging one where it is very steep.Written 13 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NellDDNew York City, NY87 contributionsGreat spot to camp out for the day. No services, so bring whatever food or drink you want for the day. And water shoes would help getting in and out of the water, which you will want to do - it's so beautiful!Written 8 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - natalieklotzerEspoo, Finland18 contributionsGrotte della Gurfa is a very old manmade cave. The children (age 4, 4 and 7) loved running around in the main cave and the smaller upper level caves. We were the only visitors, and the guide was extremely friendly and helpful.Written 12 June 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brun066Florence, Italy12Â 580 contributionsIn an area like this, many are the clues that lead to reflect on the gap between the beauty of nature and the poor management of it. E. g., the sea promenade in the neighboring Porticello village is in fact ugly and smelly, the road leading from Porticello to Aspra runs along the coast but the sea is not accessible due to the second houses that prevent (probably unlawfully) almost every access.
Luckily, a new hope for some improvement has been recently given by the story of this "Arco azzurro" (Blue Arc). Until recently also it had been progressively closed to any access from the public street; as I understand it, thanks to some citizens' engagement, a gate was recently reopened by the municipality - managed by young volunteers - again allowing access to this geological wonder.
It's a bit difficult to locate the access point, you probaly will need to ask for information in the area around (so we did). But on the spot, the satisfaction for this recovery of public access to the heritage is such that I would willingly pay even more than the inexpensive 2 euro entry ticket.
It is hoped that this situation will remain stable, and that the lack of civicness will not overwhelm it again.Written 10 November 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Near these openings the rock is a rich red brick colour due to the sulphurous anhydride and sulphuric acid emissions. The Favare are located in the Natural Reserve of the Island of Pantelleria. It is a great little hike with some awesome free views of the sea. There is abundant wildlife and flowers that offer some of the best photographs I've taken. The view of the Favare is also magnificent the closer you get to it.Written 15 August 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SissiGateshead, UK219 contributionswe got a boat trip to Lipari and then Vulcano. I was looking forward to Vulcano to go swimming in the hot water and the mud bath. The latter unfortunately was closed. However, the hot springs are free so it was nice to go into the water. You have to try and forget about the disgusting smell from the Vulcano, although it is everywhere, but it certainly is an experience.
We also went to see the black beach and hired a car to go to the top of a mountain with brilliant views over to Lipari, Stromboli and Gina's breasts :D (Malfa). Worthwhile the experience.Written 4 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Local winery next to the entrance offers excellent wine tasting aperitif for €8 with magnificent views. Get there late afternoon to enjoy the approaching sunset.
