We had a wonderful visit to the Doges Palace. The rooms are not opulent but the history is amazing.
It was very interesting to hear how Venice was governed at this time.
This site is well worth a visit

We took a water taxi whenever we were going from place to place. Not inexpensive, but easy to arrange and can be paid with CC. avaialable anywhere, but your concierge can reserve and they will pick you up at the hotel ( if you have a water entrance!)
Also took a gondola that was on the Grand Canal for a short piece. It is amazing to see all of venice this way.

Incredible building, best to pre book visit as the tourists have returned to Venice. They are building flood defences outside.

The largest and most famous square in the city, the true heart of Venice. In fact, it makes a really big impression along with the surrounding monuments. Great architecture. Piazza San Marco is the lowest point of Venice, so during high tide the whole square is under water. A charming and atmospheric place. A must see when visiting Venice.

Going to the opera, wow, this was special. Verdi’s “I Lombardi alla prima crocera”. Never heard of it so did some prep prior to coming to Venice and the music sounded glorious, and indeed it was simply splendid when heard in the most beautiful opera house. The interior was decoratively outstandingly beautiful.
The only hiccough was the interval. We missed a glass of Prosecco because we did not understand the local system to obtain your drink. First you needed to find the till which was not by the bar. You pay at the till, keep your receipt and then queue up at the bar and show your receipt to a barman who then prepares your drink. We of course queued for a while and when we tried to order at the bar we’re told to go to the till, get a receipt and return. Irritating but in the scheme of things only mildly so.
Yes, it’s expensive and it’s a treat but it’s a one-off and so worthwhile. So glad we took a risk, the memory will be for life.

Well worth a visit to the top of the tower for 360 degree views over Venice and beyond. Don’t get a fright when the bell starts ringing, it is very loud when standing right next to it.

What a fabulous museum filled with the works of many of my favorite modern artists--Klee, Kadinsky, Picasso, Calder, Ernst, Dali, and many more. You can get right up to the art--no roped off areas. This was my favorite stop in my two days in Venice.

I stayed in a hotel in this area. It was such a lively area. We had everything we needed, right out the door. There was plenty of dining options, shops, souvenir vendors and great things to walk by. I wouldn't hesitate to stay in Cannaregio again.

The island is in front of Saint Marcos Square. There's vaporetos from there and from Plaza de Roma. The entrance in Campagnilia (Tower) to see the view cost 8€ and has an elevator. Great 360º view from Venice.

Lovely old part of town. More for the locals than tourists. More Campo's to see as in all other the areas. Buildings are amazing. We wandered through San Polo into Dosoduro acoss the bridge to the Basillica at the end of the Grand Canal

Beautiful and historic basilica. The woodwork on the choir is some of the most intricate I have ever seen. Several late medieval and early Renaissance artworks, plus a working mechanism of a tower clock. You can also join the friars for morning prayer at 8am and mass at 8:30, making your visit a religious experience as well.

This is the most famous bridge in Venice and as such it’s very busy! Not matter what day or time of day you go there will always be lots of people.

I recommend getting the public water bus and then you can go underneath it and see it from a different perspective.

Just magnificent. The Tintoretto’s are spectacular, and well looked after. The Treasure Room was excellent, although we almost missed it due to poor signage
