What travellers are saying
- Barb ZKaiserslautern, Germany3 contributionsThis museum did not disappoint my two young boys. We got the family pass, which allowed entry for 2 adults and 3 children. There museum is broken up into two sections. The first shows the evolution of the earth and life from the first single-cell organisms to the time of mammals. This section included information on the shifting continents, which was really cool if you’re into geology. There were several short videos and animatronics along the way to provide variety for short attention spans. The second half walks back in time, detailing the evolution of human life. All exhibit explanations can be translated with a digital app into English and French. There is also a cafe serving food and drinks (including beer and wine). Highly recommended!Written 19 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- kramer3252New Paltz, NY26 contributionsPlease, when will you open ? We are visiting from New York, love Mettlach and V&B, and, are so sad that we can not visit the museum! We are here 2 more days, any chance to visit the grounds and walk around even if museum is not open?? - Travelling EuropeAlken, Germany697 contributionsThe specificity of this museum is that it's based on the ruins of an old castle. The visit of the ruins in the basement was already super interesting. But then we entered the main collection of the museum and we were not expecting so much to see! - F1veStarYallingup, Australia407 contributionsI hadn't been to a Roman villa construction so found it interesting. The roman cafe was perhaps more of a gimmick, but the beer was most welcome. Most rooms are empty, more effort with furnishings required.Written 15 August 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Raintree_ThailandBangkok, Thailand4Â 287 contributionsVery interesting representation of the bygone era of industrialization in Europe. The Voelklinger Iron Works were listed as a World Heritage Site in 1994, as the only intact example in all of western Europe and North America of an integrated ironworks from the 19th and 20th centuries. Massive complex of boilers, pipes, furnaces, cranes, and more.Written 15 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AlexEindhoven, The Netherlands128 contributionsThis museum consists of two parts: a museum with exhibitions and a place where they found ruins of a settlement and re-built some buildings to show how this settlement used to look like.
One gets a really good impression on how it looked like back then. It is impressive to see what the Romans already had to make life more comfortable.
Certainly a good weather thing to do.Written 28 August 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I'm not sure that the contributions by the more famous artists are among their best, but it was certainly interesting to see such a wide range. Our visit coincided with an exhibition of the works of Giuseppe Penone which were certainly worth viewing.
It's a large spacious building, with more staff than visitors when we visited. We made a special visit to Saarbrucken to see the Moderne Galerie and we didn't regret it.Written 2 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jaywing18Seattle, WA438 contributionsReally nice museum of the history of Saarlouis and the other star shaped cities. Free with nice docents. Open just a few hours a day and just off der GroĂźe Markt next to the city hall (Radhaus). See my review for Hans u GlĂĽck Restaurant nearby if you find yourself there at lunch time. Signage is all in German.Written 22 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
