What travellers are saying
- machinmadYaxley, UK2 558 contributionsSki lift style ride to the top of the nearest hill overlooking the town. The 10min gentle ride is only €8 return.
At the top is a cafe and paths off in all directions to take hikers further afield. The trail to the Cross monument is rugged but has a hand-rail, with great views of the whole valley in both directions.Written 19 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The organisation that keeps this thing running does a great job clearing the forest where the chair lift runs, as well as the machine itself.
There is a great restaurant at the top, right in the castle ruins, with fantastic views over the entirety of the Rhine valley. Clear air will have you looking right past Karlsruhe to the black forest!
There is also a fenced-in area not far from the restaurant where they keep deer that you can feed.
Parking is a bit of a challenge when it gets busy and the way down could have clearer markings, but all in all a highly recommended trip!Written 7 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is, however, no real viewing platform at the top. You can get a glimpse down but mostly between trees. I think if you walk a bit up there away from the funiculare, you can probably get a view. There's a restaurant with a great outdoor terrace with a spectacular view so go during opening hours of the restaurant. In winter, you still get a nice view out the restaurant windows.Written 26 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jim822 contributionsSesselbahn is a chairlift in Boppard in the Rhine Valley. It is about 15 min walk from the Boppard train station, and the roundtrip chairlift price is 11 EUR per person. The chairlift brings you to the top of the Boppard, where there is a great restaurant with view (Gedeonseck, cash only) and Vierseenblick (a fantastic viewpoint) in which the rhine river turns 180 degree. The view on top of the mountain is the highlight of our Rhine Valley trip, and we highly recommend this ride.Written 2 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We learned some Interesting facts about things around town. We didn't really see anything that we hadn't already by just walking around. But we enjoyed it none the less. They offered commentary in English as well which was helpful.Written 24 July 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cary LEnnis, Ireland243 contributionsAMAZING, INCREDIBLE, ABSOLUTELY OFF THE HOOK!!!!! These are just some of the adjectives to describe one of the most amazing experiences that I have been able to do in my life and in my estimation this is absolutely at the top of the list.
The RingTaxi company is run by top notch professionals and the instructors are as good as they get. Because of that they make you feel confident and comfortable driving what is essentially a rocket on wheels on what is considered one of the most difficult tracks in the world.
Michaela Scheffner runs the front office and is very welcoming and efficient and makes you feel right at home. My instructor, Patrick, was incredible and because of his calming demeanor he makes you feel perfectly comfortable and capable in the Porsche. This is critical because if you have an instructor that is a bit uptight or a bit on edge it translates directly to you and shows up in your driving. Patrick is like the equivalent of liquid valium. So relaxed and so knowledgeable that nothing seems to ruffle him. And because of this you, as the driver, pay very close attention to everything he says and you go exactly where he tells you to go on the track with the end result is that when you are done you are still flying on such a high. It probably takes at least a couple of hours to come off that rush (for me its a week later and I am still beaming) so you can actually appreciate what you have just accomplished.
For those that are quite that confident or willing to do their own driving they also have the ring taxi service in which you will be driven around the course by one of their professional drivers. These people that have been doing this for years and like the instructors know every turn, dip, bump in the track and surprisingly you are quite relaxed while getting the ride of lifetime.
This is the dream that every red blooded man has had since he could walk and started thinking about cars and driving a race course and the Ring Taxi delivered on every level possible. Absolute professionals through and through.
This is a must for your bucket list items. You will not regret it!!!!Written 25 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - freetofly1234Bellingham, WA134 contributionsI don’t remember how I came across this taxi service online but we needed to return our rental car in Trier and get to the port in Luxembourg for our river cruise. I was able to email them and set up a pickup time about a week before and confirm through email since the taxi driver did not speak English. It all went perfectly and he dropped us off very close to the ship, even though he was worried he couldn’t get us closer. There were 4 of us with some pretty big suitcases and they had a big car to get us there. I would use them again!Written 27 September 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jenny LJohannesburg, South Africa91 contributionsService was very good and exceptional friendly.
Was very prompt in taking us to the station and very pleasant to chat to
One the very few English speaking people we found on our Rhine river holiday
Was still very difficult to believe the experience we had just for speaking English how we would be left in most resturants without being served and we would have to walk out.I got the impression we were avoided as they did not want to go to the trouble of finding out what we wanted
Highly dissappoi9in the rhineWritten 22 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
