The castle is amazing, seeing those broken walls, gun fire marks, and even collapsed towers makes me think about the historic war that have happened here before. Surely a very cool place

Pharmacy museum is great, very detailed with many historic items(mostly meds) in it, laboratory looks cool and the shop sells really useful and related items for solo travelers like me such as loo cream, hand cream and soap, really practical.

The largest wine bucket in the world is cool, so sad that I didn’t get a chance for wine tasting.

The view around the castle and the mountain top is also very cool to walk along, it will be more great if there’s some snow or during spring and summer.

The first time I heard the name Heidelberg was during my studies in computer science. Some pretty good software tools were developed within its university. While nearby, I heard that Heidelberg is also a popular tourist destination, so we decided to spend a day visiting the Old Town and in particular its castle. The old town, developed between the castle hill and the river Neckar, was a little damaged during the Second World War and is very pleasant to visit. Here, there are monuments, religious buildings, beautiful squares and, to finish, its famous church and old bridge. A Beautiful panoramic view may be enjoyed from the terraces of the castle.

This is what I miss in other cities, a nice walk under the trees, overlooking the river and the old city center. And easy/fast to get there too!

We only saw the bridge from above, when we were at Heidelberg Castle. Very picturesque from up there. I would like to return some time and see the bridge up close.

Starts at a modern station in the cornmarket, just up from village centre. Not cheap, and signage confusing - 2 stages, different categories / ages. The last section is historic. Staff helped. Be aware that the top level is often in cloud and mist. Views should be good.

Well laid out booths selling Gluhwein and sausage. As well as other hot food.
The square is a lovely backdrop to it.

I've been coming up here every now and then for 15 years, it doesn't disappoint. They used to hold Walpurgisnacht up there, with bonfires and general celebrations, but now fires are illegal so I don't know if that's still a thing. Still worth a walk up if you're feeling like moving a bit.

Fascinating museum not to be missed inside Heidelberg Castle. How far science had advanced! A real window into the past.

You can get here by car, bus, or using the funicular. I recommend the latter, because it is a unique experience. It does take longer and you may need to wait in lines both ways depending on the time and date. There is a kiosk with food, an area for kids to play, and various walking trails. With good weather, the view of Heidelberg and the Neckar river is beautiful.

During my trip to the charming town of Heidelberg, I visited this beautiful church. Being a predominantly Protestant church both the outside and the inside are not very decorated but the beauty of the naves and the colorful stained glass windows amply compensate for this gap. During my visit, I was able to access the top and the view from the roofs of the church was beautiful. Finally, before leaving, I stopped near the organ with many majestic reeds. It's a shame we couldn’t hear its sound.

This is an amazing hill to explore and hike up and we felt we did not have quite enough time allocated in order to explore it all. We did not realize how much it has to offer. We did use the funicular going up to help with time management and we walked down afterwards. We did have an opportunity to visit the castle in detail, but it would be fun to climb further up. We know we need to be back.

As part of our Heidelberg walking tour we stopped in Heidelberg University's square where the lion statue is located. Most buildings for German universities are just spread out throughout the city. There are numerous school buildings throughout Heidelberg.
