What travellers are saying
- Cammy SHamilton, UK192 contributionsWe had a brilliant day out seeing this stunning building. Plenty to wander around inside and great for history. Shame that it is closing its doors for four years due to refurbishment. Definitely would highly recommend it well worth another visit when it opens up again.Written 28 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael RCounty Durham, UK66 contributionsFabulous addition to the Riverside Transport Museum. The Glenlee Tall Ship does have an admission fee of £4.50 per adult but it was certainly worth it. A four level ship which you’re allowed to pretty freely explore. Very interesting information about the ship’s history in Glasgow, it’s usage and whereabouts. There is also a cafe on board and lovely staff from start to finish. There are also educational spaces and games which would make it perfect for school trips.Written 29 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - vessi80North Lanarkshire, UK1Â 213 contributionsDoors Open Saturday gave a great opportunity to enjoy warm hospitality in this small but perfectly formed museum.
The presentation on the history of the GRI was fascinating. The expanding Glasgow population of years gone by benefited from wonderful advances in medicine, surgery and nursing care. Many of the famous figures like Lister , Macewen and pioneering nurse Rebecca Strong were discussed but just as much emphasis given to the whole 'army' of nurses and ancillary staff who kept and still keep the hospital fighting fit.Written 28 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Corinne MBirmingham, UK227 contributionsIf you want to understand Glasgow, this must be on your list: the shipbuilding made Glasgow. I couldn't have been welcomed more warmly, and the volunteers will explain Glasgow 's shipbuilding past in a heart-warming and relatable fashion. Great to see a community initiative that restored the building and improved the Govan neighbourhood.Written 2 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ArnubaGlasgow, UK95 contributionsWe visited Provan Hall via the Doors Open Days in Glasgow. This beautiful building is in the East End of Glasgow (Easterhouse), next to the Morrison's supermarket but, when you enter the grounds you are transported back to the middle ages and it's hard to believe you are in the outskirts of Glasgow.
We arrived slightly late but, luckily the tour hadn't entered the building yet. Our (voluntary) guide, Andy Middleton, was dressed in medieval costume, which really added to the experience. Andy was very enthusiastic, and had a wonderful knowledge of the architecture of the building, the characters who had lived there, and the local area. It's quite a small building, but there is so much history associated with it that our tour took around an hour. At the end of the tour Andy showed us an album of pictures of the property throughout the years, and took his time to answer all of our questions. Outside of the walls of the building there is a lovely garden, which has been landscaped.
Unfortunately, the weather was really rainy and windy that day but, despite that, we had a lovely time and plan to go back when the weather is a bit better.Written 23 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A real hidden gem. Especially liked the stained glass depicting the industries if Maryhill. Such a beautifully restored building, more people should visit!Written 20 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Nicolastevenson140 contributionsSpringburn as loads of history. I was born and grew up in springburn and it's changed in so many years. The history of springburn is amazing! Now it's gone down hill sadly. The shopping centre doesn't have many shops. Shops open and close down. There are people who fight school kids being rude etc... It used to be a great shopping centre when I was younger. It needs to be up dated. They have shops like farm foods a nice cafe b&ms card factory but apart from that nothing else really.
The sports centre is good and always busy and there are hair dressers dentists chemist doctors etc.... But from wed-fri that's the day where the area is mostly busy and you need to be extra careful. It's basic for people who are local and who don't want to travel much.

The synagogue is beautiful and the tour areas were well laid out. The guides were friendly and happy to answer all questions. This tour should be more widely advertised.Written 25 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
