Birmingham Back to Backs
#1 of 143 Sights & Landmarks in Birmingham
A very interesting view about the history of the back to backs & the families that lived there, Our tour guide Jeff was a delight with many interesting stories about Birmingham & the lifestyle of past times.
We all enjoyed the visit, very much enhanced by the friendly welcome & extensive knowledge of the staff & volunteers at the site.
Steelhouse Lane Lock-up
#2 of 143 Sights & Landmarks in Birmingham
Corinne told us the history of the buildings on the site since the creation of the Birmingham Police force in 1839, with an initial strength of 300 men, working 7 days a week for 17/- with accommodation provided,...
As the cells containing these are shown as listed a glimpsing view is only possible through the door hatch.
Soho House
#3 of 143 Sights & Landmarks in Birmingham
We visited Soho House during a week exploring the variety of Birmingham Museum's varied and well presented sites.
Nice visitor centre with tea room and guided tour by Rachel who knew everything and showed a real passion for the site and the previous inhabitants.

#4 of 143 Sights & Landmarks in Birmingham
a great art deco building , and the gardens are wonderful, has alovely tea room /bar/restaurant with spectacular views so much history there, and I learnt a lot, very imformative much better than botanical gardens...
Some planted cottage-garden beds, some greenhouses, good lawns, great woodland paths to explore, and a magical view of the lake /golf course.

Selly Manor
#5 of 143 Sights & Landmarks in Birmingham
Take time to view the gardens too, first time I have seen a quince tree in fruit and the flowering artichokes were stunning.
Parking free of charge in the road right beside it was a boon. 2 buildings to explore - one medieval, one Tudor - both brought to the site from other places.
Blakesley Hall
#6 of 143 Sights & Landmarks in Birmingham
It is essential that we support these Birmingham historical landmarks for us and future generations The children's delight and interest proves this necessity.
What a wonderful place to take children and yourselves to view this authentic Hall.Lots of activities for kids to become engaged and nice café and smallish garden to walk around.Charming place secreted away

This is a personal view though.
St. Martin in the Bull Ring
#11 of 143 Sights & Landmarks in Birmingham
Saint Martin in the Bullring is a very beautiful old stone church and landmark of the city of Birmingham that dates from Victorian times.
I also used it as a landmark to get my barrings around the city.
Town Hall Birmingham
#12 of 143 Sights & Landmarks in Birmingham
Immediately you feel at ease in the comfortable surrounds, and the excellent seating arrangements ensure you always have an unrestricted and unhindered view.
Excellent seating with plenty of leg room and reasonable views of the stage from all areas.
Moor Street Railway Station
#13 of 143 Sights & Landmarks in Birmingham
My favourite urban view in all of England is the juxtaposition of the retro-styled platforms of Moor Street station with the ultra-modern, delicious weirdness of the Selfridge's building - especially at night.
Because of the restricted width of the site, platform one is quite narrow, so does tend to get crowded at busy times, however the crowds clear quite quickly when a train arrives.
Jewellery Quarter
#14 of 143 Sights & Landmarks in Birmingham
Without prior appointment, Louise ensured that I was presented with a range of stones to view, even having additional stones delivered to the store whilst I waited, to complete a bespoke design.
Just to look at the jewellery is enough, but its nice place to walk around and to see the sites, the history etc.

Selfridges
#17 of 143 Sights & Landmarks in Birmingham
the main draw is the designer brands and the large central "bullring" which is very high and has a special angled barrier to make you feel like you are so high up and leaning forward to view the height.
Iconic Landmark for Fashion Conscious Shoppers!
Birmingham New Street Railway Station
#18 of 143 Sights & Landmarks in Birmingham
From here you can get good views down to the ticket level and enjoy the superb terrace with various places to eat and drink and access to the array of shops here.
