Cannock Chase

There's lots of history, with the sites of the WW1 training camps, and Prisoner of War camps, the German and Commonwealth Cemeteries and the Katyn Forest memorial.
It's a great place for riding bikes they hold some great Mtb events at the camp site, the park is fab and the vast open fields for the kids to run around in. Cafe is brill always nice food and lots of parking.

Visit High house on Saturday and was surprised at the level of detail on view in this historic house.
In 18 years, I hadn't taken the time to wander round and see some of the landmarks right on my doorstep.

Lovely little site little farm and coffee shop .. near to Stafford castle and town we love it here and attend 2 times a year at least .. staff are lovely ice cream amazing with s lovrny relaxed atmosphere
visited friends quiet site lovely animals and tea room and shop is very good to many ice creams to choose from nice pies for sale tea room was busy so will visit another time

An excellent site to visit alone, with family or friends, the whole site oozes history and its connections with the Stuarts and the Civil War make it a must for every seventeenth century historian.
The place is steeped in history which is well represented and the location is stunning.Parking and access is easy and the staff are friendly and helpful, typical of English Heritage sites.
Stafford Castle

Wonderful place to go and enjoy outside or in the museum lots to see such as walking up to the castle itself enjoying the views and reading the history of it all.
The visitors centre is also great with loads of information and costumes and replicas of armoury and finds from the castle site.

Visiting this NT site was well worth the effort the grounds are stunning and well kept, the views are amazing all the little bridges and connection into Great Haywood make it a place to really go and explore.
A warm, sunny day to sit outside; with flower scents wafting by, pheasants calling, geese swans and ducks afloat on the river, long views over the Chase, seeing barges pass on the canal, trains through the Grade 1...

You walk through to the memorial to the unknown soldier and then walk out onto the Patio to view the rolling grounds of war graves that are immaculate each one.
It is always so thought provoking when you note the age of so many of the boys at rest on these sites and how many of us will be resting in such a well tended site a hundred years after our passing.
