- EABLondon, UK22 contributionsIt is truly the best Beef Wellington in London!!
We've been on a quest, seeking the best Sunday Roast in London, not in a million years I thought we would find it just next door at The Grenadier!! What an amazing Beef Wellington served with tradicional roast sides, York pudding and all. I Loved it!!!
And Tony the owner is a charm, super friendly and welcoming, makes you feel right at home, a crowded home, but a very heartfelt experience. Would probably go back.Written 22 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Neil SLondon, UK305 contributionsAttended for a cocktail mixologist experience. A lovely experience with a very knowledgeable and funny guy. Would have liked to have got a drink sooner than 40 minutes in, and chat/inform more after receiving a drink, but all entertaining, informative and tasty drinks.Written 12 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tessie1Warlingham, UK755 contributionsThis pub is quaint and charming with an interesting history. I’ve visited here once before and my experience was good, but this time……not so much. The lady behind the bar was most off-hand, very grumpy and she certainly didn’t intend giving my friend a full pint of beer. He politely asked her to top his drink up to the regulatory level and she shot him a sharp glance, gave a cursory pull of the pump, so he still didn’t get a full pint. She was very engaged with two evident regulars and had little time for passing visitors. However, the pub itself is very pretty.Written 13 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- John LNanaimo, Canada140 contributionsDecent beer, great meals and top notch service!
We found this pub by accident, ducked in to have a pint stayed for the meals which were excellent.
I can't say enough about the superb customer service, the real reason we decided to try an early meal.
We were very happy with our experience.
It's a tied house to the Fuller chain, the wifi is a bit bothersome, but we didn't go there for wifi.Written 2 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Wasn't very busy when we went in which is just as well as it isn't that big inside and there aren't that many seats! But it being a Friday it livened up after 5ish. No loud music, just people talking and having an enjoyable time.Written 16 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GeorgieScarlesCambridgeshire, UK113 contributionsThe bar is elegant and intimate (4 seats at the bar itself). The mixologists are great - taking the time to ask you what you like/dislike, flavours/textures and then you can either pick from the cocktail list, or they will make you a variation of one on the list, or something completely personal. We had 3 cocktails each before going to dinner at the Oval restaurant (also recommended!). They are around £16 per cocktail which is a lot given they are very small cocktails, but the experience is worth it! I will definitely be back.Written 22 March 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- timspurrierNorfolk45 contributionsI hate writing a bad review especially about a famous pub beautifully situated near Sloane Square. I am told that it was the haunt of musicians in the thirties and of the landed gentry in the fifties and sixties.
I telephoned to book a table for four people and a dog. I phoned at least four times. Nobody answered the phone. Twice it appeared as if someone picked up the telephone to stop it ringing and put the telephone back on the hook to cut me off. I then emailed and asked for confirmation of my booking by email. None came. I then booked via the pub's website. No response. This was over a period of about four days. Eventually, I spoke to someone and ordered a table for four and a dog.
I arrived on time to find that there was no table available downstairs, but the lady behind the bar had my booking and directed me to go upstairs to table 7. I have been to the pub before with my dog and know that normally dogs are not permitted upstairs, so I was surprised.
When we got upstairs we were told that we could not have the table for four upstairs, because we had a dog. Finally we were found a table downstairs, but by this time I was having to be calmed by my daughter.
The Sunday lunch was about average for a pub managed by a brewery.
My impression was that they were very short staffed.
When my bill arrived I found that that I had not been charged with a drink. I owned up and paid the extra, but I did not feel like giving a tip, in spite of the invitation to do so on their card machine.
It is a pity that my review is so negative, as the pub is popular and provides a pleasant ambience. It's prices are reasonable and if it were better managed it would be fine.Written 17 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Can become quite nosy - when improvised guitar-playing encourages banter!
A de-marked outdoor area for the warmer months in a welcome addition.
Good range of ales and beer. Wine list basic but acceptable.
A quiet conversation is unlikely; it is possible to embroiled in casual conversation with an increasingly large Irish contingent of customers; all friendly.Written 18 May 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
