What travellers are saying
- David L1 contributionFantastic afternoon tour at Plymouth Gin in an impressive, historic setting. Thank you Naomi for a fun and informative visit. Selecting botanicals for your own 'signature' gin was the icing on the cake. We are looking forward to sampling them very soon! Finishing the tour in the newly refurbished refectory cocktail bar to relax and enjoy a tipple. Highly recommended!Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JosquineSomerset UK119 contributionsI was inspired to visit by the recent TV programmes. And of course they had showed 100% perfect, so I was a tiny bit disappointed. I felt that some areas needed refreshing. But the main things was that I needed a guide to what I was seeing in broad terms. Only when I got home and looked at their website, did I realise what the various distinct zones were. All it needed was a poster or something on the wall, or a small leaflet on arrival. And to be told where to go once I had arrived at reception - I had to ask. I guess a lot there are repeat visitors, and - as I observed - of a (pre-school) age where they didn't care about such information, but the management need to cater for the first-time mature visitor as well. Also, photos come out tinged with pale to deep blue/purple, though the human eye sees well the amazing psychedelic colours of the creatures. Despite these criticisms, the place is well-worth four stars.Written 6 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GozieShrewsbury, UK9 contributionsFilled with lovely cobblestone streets and a bubbly atmosphere, it was such a breath of fresh air visiting the Barbican. Found an excellent chicken and chips place with the kindest staff, just beside the Mexican-themed restaurant at the entrance.
It was a lovely end to a vacation in Plymouth.Written 4 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My Son booked a tour with Jerry so that my wife and his girlfriend could experience the same tour that he did eight years ago. Jerry was as ever, personable, witty and very knowledgeable. He covered during the hour and a half tour a mixture of Plymouthian history, the history of the Synagogue itself and the buildings surrounding and the events that take place within the Synagogue and their religious significance to the Jewish People. The tour was fascinating, both engaging and amusing throughout. We intend another tour, involving my son's Grandfather whom would be particularly interested in the history of Plymouth having grown up in the 50s in Devenport. Thanks for a great tour Jerry, it was a pleasure.Written 20 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anthony GPlymouth, UK4 contributionsI've lived here over 20 years and never tire of a view that is different every day according to the time, light, and weather.
For this alone, this much-maligned city is always worth a visit.Written 11 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Neil WAbingdon, UK240 contributionsBrilliant place to take the bikes and feel safe with the kids riding. The disused railway line is tarmac sealed which is popular for running, walking and cycling. We park at plymbridge woods and cycle up to yelverton, and have a meal at the rock inn and come back.
It is a slight incline going there which takes on bikes about 1:30mins and then coming back it is 55mins.Written 31 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Climb is not for the feint hearted or those with vertigo, but for anyone eke it's exhilarating and well worth it.
Nice staff giving info and great displays, loved the beds - they gave a real perspective on what conditions must have been like working and living in the lighthouse.Written 5 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The apartment was very clean and exceptionally comfortable. Being a bit of a bed linen connoisseur the linen was very very good which added to the restful night. After a long motorcycle tour we particularly appreciated the laundry facilities that got us ready for the next weeks travel. Not quite so easy to find the building location and the parking areas we were authorised to use and paid for at the time of booking but it was manageable although a bit time consuming. Well recommended as a base to stay and visit Plymouth and particularly if all you want is a 8 minute journey to the ferry port. Note that booking parking I would consider essential.Written 18 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GozieShrewsbury, UK9 contributionsThere was such a pleasant sharp contrast between the natural history section and the exhibitions on the evolution of media and photography!
