What travellers are saying
- S FUcluelet, Canada790 contributionsThe wondrous Wild Pacific Trail in the ocean village of Ucluelet on Canada’s Wild West coast, has a 2024 programme which extends its mission to teach, both nature & local cultural history to those who visit.
Visitors are residents of Ukee, as locals refer to the ocean village, but also come from afar, both nationally & internationally.
One learns of course by just being exposed to the flora & fauna which one observes as one walks this breath-taking trail but programmes led by experts, both on line & in person, are available for this new year of 2024.
The organization is a non profit & needs donations to sustain itself & grow. It is easy to donate online.

This west coast catch-&-release micro aquarium draws ever more visitors as its “fame” spreads, locally, nationally & internationally:
In 2023 it drew a record number of 40,O00 visitors.
It has also had a good fundraising year.
It releases its sea animal at the end of November, spending December, January & February cleaning & reimagining its environment. It will be opening again with new sea animal“visitors” on March 1. It offers season passes & low entrance rates.

It's easy to find the location in town, with plenty of free parking, and a well-groomed short trail to the water. I noticed this visit that they do not allow direct access to the lighthouse anymore, but there are still many vantage points to view and photograph.
On a clear day you can see for miles, but today we scored big because there was a low-lying fog over the water, which meant we had that lovely fog horn blowing a west coast song into our souls! And good news: they are currently building a large 'viewing-structure' so looking forward to seeing this when completed. Totally recommend you visit here, Cheers!Written 24 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very friendly and helpful and gave us some great ideas for what to do, and where and when to pay for the national Park. It is also surrounded by some fantastic trees.Written 17 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Michelle HHarwich, UK379 contributionsVisited the hatchery hoping to see black bears, unfortunately we were a couple of weeks too early. We did get a fly past (twice) by a bald eagle. The hatchery is very informative and we learnt a lot about salmon. Dave is a very interesting character and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with us which also included mushrooms, which he is very passionate about. Although it is free to visit they do ask for donations as they have very limited funding. We thought the hatchery was well worth the visit (even without the bears) and we were more than happy to make a contribution.Written 25 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - S FUcluelet, Canada790 contributionsPacific Rim Distilling (PRD) is a great family- run operation, which has as its one focus PLACE & it is located in the place of Ucluelet on Canada’s Wild West coast, where place is writ large wherever one looks.
This terrior-driven distillery is thus a perfect fit for this singular ocean village locals refer to as Ukee.
It is in a wondrous rain forest where much can be foraged for in the making of these botanical spirits from the surrounds.
Luke, who is the owner & a fourth generation distiller, has place — what the French have widely made known as terroir — as his guiding vision.
One can taste echoes of the spectacular surrounds in every sip of his crafted products.
All are delicious.
I like the gin-based the most.
The range of crafted spirits PRD makes are available from its distillery on Forbes, which is centrally located in Ukee, just off the central street of Peninsula.
It is open mostly for sales just in the afternoon. PRD products are also available in many of the exciting bars & resto in Ukee itself, as well as
more generally.
Prices are good.
I come back each time to favorably review again & to buy another of its creatively crafted liquors.

The building and views all around are wonderful, so I can only imagine hanging out on their porch would be grand. We enjoyed a brief ranger talk in the parking lot, and hope they can renovate and return this unit to service.Written 20 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lesley d6 contributionsWe were very lucky to be there on a misty stormy day and the beach looked eerie but beautiful. The steps leading down to the beach are new and easy to access the beach.Written 5 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - helenw00San Francisco, CA82 contributionsThis gallery is so cool, and I can't recommend it enough. They have a great collection of wood carvings, paintings, prints, photos and other First Nations art. We learned the story of the origin of the gallery. The owner saw the First Nations' artists getting ripped off by other galleries who charged large commissions. So, he decided to create a First Nations supportive gallery and took out a loan to create his own gallery. The artists set their own rules here. Additionally, the owner will sit there doing his own carvings. Support this great local, independent business with great morals and pick up some cool art!Written 5 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PBPGYorkshire, UK6 010 contributionsMagnificent views over this vast lake, the largest lake in Vancouver island, not easy to find a good spot, though there are a number of stopping places as you drive past. It went into operation in 1915 and is still going strong.Written 17 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Redkitewatcher64Andover, UK1 841 contributionsSmall stony beach on the outskirts of town. A lovely bay with great views out to sea. Seemed to be a popular spot for people to sit and watch the sun go down, or enjoy a summers evening having a few drinks with friends sat on the driftwoodWritten 26 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
