Wharariki Beach Walking Track Puponga
#2 of 67 Nature & Parks in Nelson-Tasman Region
Once you get to the end of the gravel road and park your car, you walk through a sheep pasture, through a small forested area, over a gigantic sand dune... but you are rewarded with an incredible view!
The beach is probably about half an hour walk from the car park and the sand dunes quite a challenge but the view you get rewarded with is truly mesmerising!

Wainui Falls Track Abel Tasman National Park
#3 of 67 Nature & Parks in Nelson-Tasman Region
Great walk in nature, great that the bridge is updated and now a fabulous cafe at the carpark!!! Try the tumeric chai
The drive from Nelson will take you through the mountain which could take quite a while before reaching to the base of the falls where you can park your car and walk/hike to the water fall.
Nelson Lakes National Park
#4 of 67 Nature & Parks in Nelson-Tasman Region
From lazy strolls around the lake to hard walking in the high country theres something for all ages & abilities in the Park.
... Track is a bit devilish, in that it descends well below the parking lots, forcing you to spend the last 2.2 km hiking back up hill and across a couple of avalanche areas before returning to the lower car park.

Clean, beautiful, fabulous for walking, seems great for swimming (it was chilly and there were jellyfish when I went, so I passed on the swimming), big enough to handle crowds and feel like you're still in nature,...

Pupu Hydro Walkway Takaka
#11 of 67 Nature & Parks in Nelson-Tasman Region
such a rare and beautiful spot in nature, one of the clearest freshwater lakes in the world - I hope it will be preserved and protected for the generations to come.
Tucked away behind Takaka, about 4km from Te Waiokoropupu Springs along an unsealed road, the walk starts and returns to the small hydro power station near the car park.
Hack Farm Takaka

Rawhiti Cave Track Takaka
#13 of 67 Nature & Parks in Nelson-Tasman Region
Where else but in NZ can you see such amazing nature, hundreds and hundreds of stalactites and pretty likely have the place to yourself?! Took 1.5 hours return, including a good half hour gawping in the cave.
Some special nature!
Founders Park Nelson
#14 of 67 Nature & Parks in Nelson-Tasman Region
We found Founders Park to be enlightening and we thoroughly enjoyed our stroll through history.
... our little man's train obsession and gave us a little peak at the engines being restored in the railway workshop, which was such a treat - and also speaks to the kindness of the people we encountered at the park.
Heaphy Track Kahurangi National Park
#15 of 67 Nature & Parks in Nelson-Tasman Region
The birdlife in general was really amazing - and there was lots of information about the history and wildlife of the park in the huts as well to read up on.
The Karamea car park is huge and lovely compared to the Collingswood one.

Farewell Spit Nature Experience Collingwood
#21 of 67 Nature & Parks in Nelson-Tasman Region
There are three outstanding highlights at the tip of the South Island where you experience mother nature raging in its pristine beauty far from civilization.
We picked up the trip at the car park at the start of the beach and so avoided the extra time on the bus from Collingwood.

Kaiteriteri Mountain Bike Park Kaiteriteri
#22 of 67 Nature & Parks in Nelson-Tasman Region
But we'll worth it as view across Kaiteriteri and Abel Tasman park was breathtaking also "Jaws" was an immense decent with great jumps, drops and bends.
As you enter the park from Martin Farm Road it is quite steep and has some tight bends ( from a beginners perspective) The track itself is narrow with a big drop off, and if some faster riders were approaching fro...
