Amazing to see the penguin colony up close, and to observe their behaviour.
Very interesting indeed, and particularly impressed by those on 'sentry duty' - standing absolutely still and facing out to the crowd of visitors. Every now and then, the sentry would be replaced by another penguin ... the first being relieved of duty!!
    Incredible

This is definitely worth a visit whilst in cape point nature reserve.
Saw ostriches on the beach on the way to cape of good hope.
There aren't any facilities at the car park, and I Imagine it could get very busy.
Possible to walk to cape point from cape of good hope

Amazing experience. We never imagined we would get here, and what an experience. Trip via Boulders beach for the penguins and the wind was howling but it was wild and wonderful!

A great afternoon hike for sure. Wonderful views, well established trails. Strong recommendation. Just don't go too late in day.

Really interesting and definitely see if you can get on one of the hourly free tours as their guides explain the purpose and setup which is the most interesting part.
We were there on a Tuesday, which turned out to be the day the animals have a day off from the experience visits where you can get closest. Still worth it as you’re close on the walk around.
Incredibly cheap at 10R per person, so worth it even for a 30 min leg stretch on your way up to Canopy Tours or another location.

We found Inverdoorn a charming place to stay. Our Tankwa chalet was very comfortable and well appointed. We stayed for one night and had 2 game drives. Food was excellent (one veggie, one meat eater) . Lovely pool area.
Well organised and our private transfers organised by the company went smoothly.
Vehicles took 10 passengers. Our driver-guide was informative.
The animals have been brought in from elsewhere and are fed centrally, so you are guaranteed to see lions(in a separate part) zebras, giraffes, elephants, hippos, rhinos, buffalo, impala, springboks and ostriches but with absolutely zero thrill of the safari trekking chase.

Loved the walk through encounters. Favorite attraction were the monkeys. I feel that the ticket price for adults are a bit steep.🧐 Picnic area needs a bit attention.

They say 3hrs but if reasonably fit and 5 rests we did it from the coffee wagon in 1.5 hours.
Beware uber drivers may refuse to take you beyond cable car, claiming road is bad. It's asphalt as far as the coffee wagon. If you have to walk from the main station it's an extra v easy 15 ..20mins.
It's full sun so early start recommended.

The view on Noordhoek beach as you exit the Chapmans peak Road from Hout Bay is completely stunning. It is even more interesting to take the road down to the beach itself and park your car in the small car park adjacent to the sands. It is often very windy here and the water can be exceptionally cold but in February 2024 my wife and I were able to walk across the beach to the sea and I swam in the waves - which for me was a bucket list item for the year! It is a beautiful but barren place. Nearby there are several options for a cup of coffee and a little bit further down the main road away from Hout Bay is a ‘village’ where you can buy craft items, eat meals or get a cup of coffee and a croissant. Altogether a lovely place!

What a beautiful area! We visited different parts of Comstantia Valley, the area has very beautiful nature. You can have some nice hikes ore bike tours. There are some nice restaurants also. Highly recommended when in the region.

Had fun at the ostrich farm and very close up to ostriches. There is a shop to browse ostrich products like purses and bags. And we got to buy bowls of feed to feed 2 ostriches in a designated pen. There’s also a restaurant in the same compound that serves ostrich fillet but we didn’t try the food. Overall, it was really fun taking a quick visit to the ostrich farm and happy to chance across it! Interesting to hold the ostrich egg and look at the ostrich egg shell art too.

We drove to cape point and walked up to the lighthouse... funicular railway was available too.
Fantastic scenery and views across ocean
You can choose to walk to cape of good hope below, or drive as we did !
    Saw ostriches on beach enroute.
Definitely worth the visit, but would recommend going early.

For a small fee of R20 per vehicle, I recommend parking inside the reserve passed the boom gates. Entry fee was R30 pp.

The staff were friendly but at reception the lady did not know much about the various hiking options. The start of the hike was not well marked at all and this needs to be addressed.

We figured out that the hikes seem to have a common starting point behind reception, and eventually found our way to the Protea hike which seems to be the most popular of all the options.

It’s a moderate difficulty 3.1km gradual climb to the halfway point and about 3.4km easy downhill loop back to the car park. Lovely vistas of Strand and Gordon’s bay with the majestic Hottenton Hollands mountains as a backdrop.

There are benches to stop at and enjoy the view. Take enough water, a cap and comfortable walking shoes with grip as the path is quite slippery in places.

It seems there was a fire a few months ago but I think in the next few months the proteas will be in full bloom with a bit of rain. Download the map on your phone from the website or purchase one for R5 at the start.

Highly recommend if you’re in the Somerset west area. Please note, there is a bit of noise from the renovations at the start which may disturb you picnic.

Finally stayed for a night after many day visits over many years. Very comfortable stay. Great facilities, helpful staff and stunning views, especially to wake up to in the morning. We walked the Palmiet Walk, an easy, pretty route.
A visit to the nearby Harold Porter Botanic Garden is also always worthwhile.
If travelling from Cape Town, it's worth travelling over Sir Lowry's Pass on the way there and taking the coast road on the way back.
