    PROS
    * Great hike that many average fitness people can do
    * Great scenic views of the verdant expansive Biblical landscape as seen immediately after the winter rains
    * Incredible historical significance of the site- the exact location of the Israelite camp during the fateful battle of David and Goliath in the valley below
    * Seasonal blossoming of lupine flower only in the first two weeks of March every year

    CONS
    * Crowded- it is very crowded and congested on the trail on warm early spring days such as last weekend (see my photos)
    * One needs to be aware of one's footing when ascending and especially when descending
    * Absolutely no access except by private car (even though there were three gigantic tour buses last weekend
    * Congested cleared dirt area parking area

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE"
... when we descended from Jerusalem along (maybe) the same path that King David used when he fought Goliath here on this very exact spot 3000 years ago.

It was a glorious warm spring day last weekend.

We parked in the newly expanded dirt parking lot (see photos) and proceeded to hike to the top- a bit challenging. We needed to be even more cautious on the descent.

The scenery is fantastic and the cool early spring breeze was exhilarating... except that there is now construction on the horizon north of the site.

We viewed the seasonal lupine flower here that blossoms only in March every year and is there for only a few weeks.

It was crowded- very very crowded- everyone had the same idea- one had to coordinate and make room for the many others on the trail for the entire length of the hike up and the hike down.

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    Sure- it is free

WOULD "I VIST THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
    Sure

    ADVICE
    * Be sure- footed and reasonably fit for for the climb
    * Admire the views (despite signs of urban expansion)
    * Learn the biblical history of Tel Socho and David vs. Goliath before you go
    * Admire the flowers if you go in early spring season of the month of March
    * Arrive by private vehicle- no other access
    * Be prepared for massive crowds- grid lock in the parking lot and a non stop continuous stream of people on the trail- many with families of young children

I strongly recommend a visit to these caves. The view is espectacular once you go high on the mountain. To access the cave you have to walk down hills, and of course once you're done you have to go back up. No worries, there are steps and rails built into the mountain. They have a small store with snacks and drinks, and cute souvenirs. The inside of the cave is something breath taking! You're allowed to take pictures but no flash. Wear comfy shoes and enjoy!

I was hesitant to visit given the recent reviews. Now that I have gone anyway, I would disregard the negativity. I was visiting nearby, and I wanted to visit a winery locally (Israeli wineries have come such a long way in the past decade). I needed a place where the staff could speak English well enough to make useful recommendations and where I didn't need a reservation (as I didn't know what time I'd be dropping by).

I absolutely loved my visit. The staff was super friendly and spoke excellent English. The wine selections were great. The cheese pairings were truly wonderful, especially when paired with wines overlooking the malbec grapes (malbec happens to be my favorite varietal). I thoroughly enjoyed my leisurely, scenic tasting. I highly recommend stopping in to this lovely property right next to the forest of the Martyrs not far from Jerusalem.

We visited Denny during our tour with Israel Wine Tour – what a fantastic visit we had. Denny is animated, articulate…and he concocts most delicious beverages! For the enthusiast, the tour itself is very informative. For the traveller, Denny’s is not your average story. And for the tourist….an absolute “must see” destination. We were a family of 8 adults (our two pregnant daughters-in-law didn’t imbibe!), and we all thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Denny…keep on keeping on!

We scheduled a private session for two couples while on vacation in Ella Valley Israel. Olya is a talented artist, the workshop was fascinating and the four of us blown glasses and plates, which after two days were sent to our hotel.

We’ve just finished 5 days of touring with Moti. In all of my travels around the world, he is by far, hands down the best guide I’ve ever had. He is so knowledgeable, funny, and eager to have us experience his Israel. I will be back and will select Moti as my guide. I can’t give him high enough praise.
