Lovely break in Matroosberg. Nature right on your doorstep, plenty of hiking, running and photography opportunities.
Our self-catering lakeside cottage was small, but did the job. Very cold in winter, and there were a few leaks in the door and roof, but nothing too serious. Some amazing full day hikes if you are brave enough - we chose to stay closer to the farm and did a couple of half-day, well-signposted walks.

Delicious Cider Tasting experience. We were welcomed by a wonderful host … Jain who was very knowledgeable about the ciders . The setting and scenery are stunning .

You really need time to visit this small but comprehensive museum. There are a number of exhibits that contain a lot of printed information on huge display boards - the information needs to be read to fully grasp the detail.

The primary focus of the museum is the influence that the Transport Riders had on the town.

Establishment of churches in the area and the different religious denominations is also on display.

Interesting facts are also shared about the earthquake that caused great devastation in the Tulbagh area in 1969.

Parking can be a bit challenging - I would advise getting in touch with the museum or parking in the main road and taking a short walk to the museum. Take care on route and do not have your personal belongings visibly displayed.

What a great find. We were 6 bikers travelling through the Tankwa and stayed in the tented camp. Perfect evening braiing under the stars with fantastic hospitality from Rael and Michelle. Tents were spotless and the beds very comfortable. We looked at the chalets which were also very well put together and clean. What amazing sunsets and tranquility.
