Lovely waterfalls, we park in le Nerfboug and walk down both waterfalls and walk back up through the town, takes about an hour for the round walk then we go to Labbaye restaurant across the road for a fab very good value lunch.

Beautiful place to visit. The history of Mortain is fascinating, and the little chapel at the top is perched on the edge of the hill. The view from behind it is amazing, you can see all the way to Mont St Michel, Avranches and many miles in the distance on a clear day. Its a nice place to go for a short walk with the dogs and family.
You should make sure you Google the story of Mortain and Hill 314 in WW2 as it is an amazing story and makes you think alot when you are visiting there.

After many years of driving past the deserted abbey and wondering what lay inside, we were lucky to spot an advert from the Office de Tourisme, Mortain offering occasional guided tours this summer.
This tour is not for the faint hearted who have no knowledge of monastic life and a poor grasp of French. You will see the cloisters, the abbey church and the chapter house but the bulk of the visit is a very erudite talk by the guide about the history of the buildings and the people who occupied them, with significant asides into Norman history and the genaeology of the rulers of this part of the world.
If you are an avid reader of Brother Cadfael and have a reasonable interest in church architecture (and reasonable French) you will enjoy this!

A beautiful church which has very fine stained glass windows and an interesting roof. Very close to the tourist office
