An easy walk through town from the harbor/ship tenders. Not to far to carry a beach bag with towels and drinks/snacks. There is a restaurant adjacent, with some rentable lounges, but we did not bother. Only a few shady spots, you might need to get there early. Can see how it might get crowded since it is small. A few boats did anchor just offshore; they provide a lane for dinghy access to the beach. Easy enough to get into the water; just a little steep. Water of course beautiful, clear, blue, bottom easy on your feet.

Great views of Shell Beach, the town of Gustavia, the harbor, and maybe your cruise ship if it's anchored. A short set up steep steps up. No fort, just some stones on the old location. A few informational signs.

I have purchased pearl jewelry from here several times and it is a much less expensive alternative to Bijou La Mer. Considering how often you would wear this type of jewelry, it’s hard to justify the exorbitant prices of Bijou. Yes, their quality is probably higher than Kalinas but we have never had anything but compliments on our Kalinas pieces.

I was the only visitor in this historic building from the early Swedish colonial period (1784-1878). France traded the island for port rights in Gothenburg. This is well known, but it was news to me that there was another factor involved. The Swedish Ambassador to France was marrying into a prominent French political family, which also contributed to this transaction, according to the staff member on duty.

Sugarcane was the basis of an initially successful period for the Swedes, but hurricanes and an earthquake wrecked the island later on. Hence, it was returned to the French. Still, street names are posted in Swedish along with French.

The Gustavia Lighthouse built in 1961 is still actively guiding sailors. Today there are only stone ramparts, cannons and a powder house left. A stone walkway from the harbour leads you to the top, passing through some colourful gardens. Great views from up there include the assorted boat traffic in the deep blue waters, the dense palm woods and the ubiquitous red roofs like those of Prague. Well worth the effort.

Good to see this throwback to the times when Sweden controlled the island. A photogenic building amongst the red roofs.

There is nothing more quintessentially St Barths than images by Vero -- whether tiles, posters, coasters, or place mats, etc. Her work is all over the island, and her refined aesthetic and keen eye for the island's beauty are captured in every image she creates. She's a go-to for decorations, gifts, and souvenirs of the unique paradise that is St Barths.

This is a very small museum with limited displays but it is well organized. Some historical pieces as well as a lot of local art. This activity requires 30 minutes to an hour, tops. Make a quick stop and add a little diversity to your vacation.

Wonderful catholic experience in St Barts. Mass is in French and very authentic. I had the English readings on my phone.

What a lovely surprise to find an interesting and well kept garden. It combines the history of the fort with indigenous planting. It’s also the best spot to take pictures of beautiful Gustavia.
You just walk up the road towards the airport to get to it, not far and it’s free to visit.

This French Sous-Préfecture (Municipal) building in Gustavia, St. Barthélemy, Eastern Caribbean, dates back to the early 19th century when it was originally a Swedish prison. Around from the Old Swedish Clock Tower, the old jail has grounds worth seeing and a terrific view of Gustavia. If you ask nicely, they may allow you inside to see, but this is now an administrative building with little in common to the old jail.

Small waterfront green space facing the harbor. Across the street is an historic church but not much else of interest here.
