If you look for a reliable and cheap taxi on the island ometepe, I can recommend you Gerald Tijerino. I traveled together with three friends. We paid 5 dollars each for drives that took about 30-40 minutes. He also offers scooter rentals for 24h at a rate of 15 dollars. Motorbikes are avaible at 20 dollars for 24 hours. Gerald usually replied within minutes when communicating over WhatsApp and was always very kind and helpful.

Elmer is the best! He is super friendly and his daughter is adorable. They have great, brand new bikes and options to suit you best. The location of his shop is perfect and he is easily reachable by WhatsApp incase you want to extend your rental, or coordinate what time to drop off. Definitely go with Elmer!

If you are interested in archeology, this small museum is a must see. Staff of the hotel of the same name will guide you around.

The rental was organised through my hostel & the guy showed up to the hostel with the bike. He then took me to give me some basic scooter instructions as I’d never ridden one before.
He was kind & really sensible.
I had a great time zooming around on the scooter & everything worked perfectly.
A really nice company in little Ometepe!

We got in contact with danilo some days before our arrival. He organized our tour do the concepción with the local guide lazaro, who was a great guy. Also the scooter rental worked out perfect, danilo was always on time and helped us during our whole stay on the island. We would highly recommend this company!

The guide had good vibes which made the long hike super bearable, he kept emphasizing it was not a competition and that everyone had to find the pace they felt more comfortable with which was really nice as well. The personally recommended hiking the volcano from the less used side which faces the other volcano and guaranteed a more personal experience without running into other hikers all the time. Overall, I highly recommend this tour, I'll definitely do it again :)

Definitely a great idea to rent a scooter to go around Ometepe island. We stayed in Cabañas privadas Dilany with Javier and his family who welcomed us. We rent a scooter for 2 days at a good price and he even offered to keep our bags for a day and offered us an additional half day for free!
We had a small accident due to our own fault (be careful in the sand) but Javier was really comprehensive and gave us a good customer service and made the price as fair as possible for us.
    Thanks again! I recommend

As the ferry pulled closer to Ometepe, we knew we were in for a special experience. Eric met us at the dock, and over the next two days shared his deep knowledge about nature, history and culture, as well as his passion for his homeland. The most experienced birder on our trip agreed that Eric was among the most skilled guides she'd ever encountered - anywhere in the world. Eric effortlessly balanced between deeply knowledgable members of our group, and the rest of us who were eager but somewhat new to the birds, butterflies, geology and history of Ometepe. Two years later we still marvel and laugh about the "ant-tasting" and how our vegan friend Sandy agreed they taste just like carrots! We long to return to Ometepe and to Nicaragua in general, and can't wait for what Eric can show us and teach us.

This is a scenic way to get to Ometepe Island. There are a few different ferry companies that can take you across to the island. We caught the 10:30am Ferry III. If you get seasick easily, try to get a bigger ferry so that you can have a smoother ride. The ferry takes and hour and costs around 50 cordobas per person.

Did the waterfall and ojo de agua tours, very reasonably priced and they were very patient in waiting for us at every stop, almost like a full day private tour just to your group. Helpful guide and very good at navigating tough terrain especially the area blown away by the recent typhoon. Would strongly recommend for your hikes in the area!

This is a nice local park in the centre of town in Moyogalpa. It has a nice family feel and plenty of play equipment, including a basketball court. There’s a decent amount of shade and plenty of seats.

When my girlfriend and I rented a scooter from them, they said the bike works great, even though it looked a little old and damaged. We asked for a newer one, but they said that was all they had. My girlfriend took a detailed video of all the scratches and I am so glad she did. At first I trusted these people, but after 4 days on the island, we returned the bike and they looked us straight in the eyes and lied to us. They said that the bike didn’t have any damage earlier. We showed them the video of all the damage and then they said they need to check the “alignment of the bike.” The took it outside and drove it around and said that it was not aligned properly and tried to convince us that we crashed it. Four or five people were all inside talking to us at once and it was really intimidating. They asked for $60 since “the alignment of the tires was bad” but it was not our fault. I tried to leave and one of the guys grabbed my arm and said, “That’s not a good idea” My girlfriend started crying, asking me to pay them so we could leave, but I was so angry that they were scamming me. It took 2 hours to settle and I only paid them 650 cordobas, which was still way too much. I wish I looked at these reviews before renting here because I can see there is a common thread as of late. Do not rent from these people, it is not worth the hassle, they will suck you of money.
