#1 of 68 Museums in Mid Coast Maine
We are members of the South Carolina Maritime Museum (the hubby is on the Board) and we try to check out all maritime museums when we travel.
Admission $16 for adults, a bit less for seniors or kids, is a bit steep, but museums are expensive to operate, s this keeps them in business.

And, unlike a lot of museums, this one has cars and planes and even a complete section devoted to energy (steam engines, etc.) that really tell about the history of industrial development in our country.
While there are certainly larger antique car museums, Owl's Head is both well presented and quite interesting.

This was one of the best lighthouse museums I've seen with amazing historical items and photos.
The museum occupies the old light keeper's house and provides a lot of fascinating artifacts and stories of life on the coast of Maine in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

... Homer draws on their splendid archive of materials -- drawings, letters, etc. -- relating to this iconic American artist, and includes rarely seen drawings, watercolors and paintings from numerous US museums.
One of the oldest collegiate art museums in the country, I especially like their holdings of works on paper, which include one of the very first collections of Old Master drawings.

We visit train and transportation museums all over the country.
The vintage transport museum was incredible, with over 50 amazing vehicles and the man overseeing it was extremely helpful - in fact all the staff were brilliant.

The interiors/museums of the lighthouses we visited were closed in April, but still worth the visit.
We love lighthouses - we are Board members of the South Carolina Maritime Museum in Georgetown, S C and check out as many maritime places that we can.

With a unique and extensive collection of lighthouse artifacts, this museum is fascinating for anyone interested in learning more about lighthouses and life on the ocean coast.
Great museum, lots of exhibits, very helpful volunteers who provide a ton of background info.

Comparable to major museums such as Mystic in content and information, despite its smaller size.

Excellent Museum for Civil War and Maine History
Destination on our trip was Bar Harbor, but we spent a night in Brunswick just to visit the museum, Bowdoin College, and Chamberlin,s burial sight.
