This is a Bucket List trip; wonderful colors and the Canyon itself is outstandingly beautiful.
We took the Grand Canyon Train and Xanterra bus ride to get the most information before walking our feet off!

Sandy, rocky path into the Grand Canyon. Park where ever you find a spot and walk to the trail head by the rim path. There are restrooms and water refill area before you take the path down. As others have stated the path down is enjoyable but coming up will take double the amount of time that you thought it would. We did go to the 1.5 mile marker where there is a rest area and well marked point on the trail. Few shady spots along the trail. We didn't use hiking sticks since the ground was mixed of rocks and dirt.

Beautiful scenery walking down, so enjoy the sights, take pictures going down and up. By the first tunnel, you can spot pictographs on the wall to the right as you go down. We saw a big horn sheep resting near tunnel 1. The park rangers with horses were going up from the bottom of the canyon carrying trash from the campers. People and horses all fit on the trail but it was odd walking behind a horse but none of them kicked any of the hikers as we walked behind the resting horses.

We went at the end of April and it was getting warm for the hikes, summer must be much hotter and dangerous. Take water, and rest going up and down. Look at the wonderful canyon and smile with happiness (as you rest going up).

We drove through on our way to Utah on a snowy day in early March and were enthralled by yet another natural wonder here in America. People flock to other parts of the world looking at what is here at home. If you love nature come and see what this drive has to offer.

We hiked down to the second recommended stop which provided a pointed overview into the canyon. The terrain was fascinating and so amazing to be 'in the canyon' - we will definitely come again and explore further.

Grand Canyon West/Sky walk / Western Ranch and Singing cowboy experience. This tour was booked for my wife's birthday and what a treat it was! We were picked up promptly from our hotel by Bob of Desert Wonder Tours. What a lovely chap. He was so informative about what to expect on the day ahead - we were meeting the tour bus at a place called Dolan which was approximately an hours drive from Las Vegas. On arrival we was greeted by Sharon, our driver/tour guide for the day. We headed for the Grand Canyon driving through a Joshua tree forest. On arrival at the Grand Canyon we headed for the Sky walk - a circular walk way made of glass which extends over the canyon itself. Not for the faint hearted! but what an experience looking down seeing the depth of the canyon it all its glory. After taking several photos of the wonderous Canyon we then headed for Guano point - several stunning views and remnants of the old cable car system which used to send miners down to extract the guano which is rich in nitrogen. After this we headed for the Ranch for lunch. Someone had told Casey, the singing cowboy that it was my Wife's birthday and he sang happy birthday to her strumming on his guitar. It really made her day. After a couple of songs Casey proceeded to tell us about the history of the Ranch - so interesting . We then had a wander round before heading back to Vegas. A brilliant day made special by Bob Sharon and Casey. If you like this sort of thing well worth the trip in my opinion.

The trail at the rim is by far the easiest in the park. Little elevation change and totally stunning views. You can hike a short distance or over 20 miles, and (of course) anything in between.

My husband and I just finished our Desert View Tour with Tom as our guide. I hope you are lucky enough to get this gem as a tour guide.
We were picked up at our lodge and he started telling us about the area, it’s history, the foliage, the formation of the mountains etc. This man was amazing and made our trip fabulous.
The views were absolutely amazing and his knowledge of the area and where to get the best pictures made it even better.
I’m so glad we took this excursion and a special thank you to Tom.

This may be the most famous of South Rim viewpoints and with good reason. I found all the canyon views awesome but this one maybe a bit more so. Very close to the edge. Even though crowded, if you have patience and wait long enough, you can have any section of it you want to stand at.

Beautiful view as all of them are. But if biking, get the orange shuttle to here and save some energy for the rest of your bike ride.

Views are excellent from the vicinity but one of the most crowded areas we found in the South Rim area, likely because it is a main lodging and feeding area.

This is one of the few South Rim places (within the accessible "touristy" area) that can't be reached by shuttle service. But the drive is well worth it with numerous interesting overlooks and picnic spots.

A great place to see some really nice views. There were some trees in the upper area though that block some of the best views. It was very busy at this viewpoint, but we were able to find a place to enjoy the views without being bothered by the crowds.

Another stop on the "red shuttle service" at the western end of the main South Rim tourist area. You can see (and access) the Bright Angel trail.

The visitor center was closed in April and hopefully has reopened by now. Check the National Park Service website. There is a bookstore which is really a large gift shop that was open. There are restrooms in this area and a short walk to Mather's Point to take pictures. Plus, you can walk along the paved rim trail back to El Tovar or other Grand Canyon Village stores.
