Called in here on our day trip from Homestead the ranger was very helpful telling us the best walks to complete.

The trip to the National Park was well worth it to see real wildlife

Been here many times over the last 20 years. Always the best place for seeing alligators and other wildlife, especially at dusk. Lately, the waterways have got choked with vegetation, which impedes the alligators, and you're less likely to see them hunting. And watch out for the turkey vultures in the car park. They are especially partial to convertible roofs. Plastic sheets are helpfully provided.

This place has been on my bucket list and I finally made it. To be honest, we should ave waited 'till the new visitor's center was open but we had the time so we went.

This place is in the middle of nowhere. It's a 35 mile ride to the visitor's center after you pass through the gate where you pay to get into the park. Other than some trailheads and a small lake or two, there is nothing on this road 'till you get to the end where the center is located. One way in, one way out.

We had signed up for the back country boat tour--do this in advance, it's a small pontoon boat and it books up fast. Our captain and guide were very knowledgeable and entertaining. We had a great time.

We got lunch at a small food truck located outside the marina store. Seagulls pounced on us as soon as we sat down to eat--very agressive. We ate in our car.

They are building a brand new visitor's center and motel, both look great and appear to be close to opening. The motel will be welcome because it takes so long to get to this place from where we were staying.

You can camp in the campground if you want and if all you have is a tent, you can camp right by the water--what a view! You're looking over a bay between the mainland and the Florida Keys. You can't see the keys as far as I can tell because they're too far away and there are no tall structures that would rise above the curvature of the earth.

Mosquitoes were a minor problem in the shade. I can only assume they will get worse as summer arrives.
