Both Ernest Coe Visitor Center & Royal Palm have very helpful & informative rangers, please take their advice & use the tarpaulins to cover your car before setting off to explore the trails at Royal Palm.....
The variety of wildlife was amazing and the educational resources were helpful to learn more of the area and its history.

Make sure you plan a full day, start early and make make frequent stops along the boardwalks and hiking trails from the visitors center all the way to Flamingo.

We visited the Welcome Center in winter and were treated to the sight of several manatees as well as alligators and various beautiful birds.

The do have a nicely set up center and a Park Ranger (Jill) gave us an informative walk around the small grounds pointing out the various flora and how they relate to the ecosystem.
When you enter the Gulf Coast Visitor Center, you will find that most people are getting backcountry camping permits for a multi-day paddling trip, perhaps on the 99-mile Wilderness Waterway.
