The directions given by the host prior to our arrival were exceptionally helpful.
The road to get there and leave is not for the faint hearted but travel carefully and you'll be fine ( even in a small hatchback etc) .
The men giving the tours are knowledgeable and give ample opportunity for each guest to spend enough time with the animals in each enclosure, they explained their feeding times, diets, general information and the background of the animals. The Animals are well looked after and in very good condition, it's a very magical experience for even the most well versed animal lover ( we've been to a number of animal encounter experiences before and this will be a forever highlight for myself and especially for my husband).

Important information: Use the bathroom before the tour, cooldrinks etc are sold at the office, bring a hat, sunblock with you for your tour.

You get to experience around 10 kinds of animals ( maybe a little less) and it's a very special experience. Trust the tour guides and handlers and their experience, there's no need to be scared or fear the animals you encounter, as long as you follow the set guidelines.

We got the full experience with the history and thought process behind the winery. This personal attention appreciated over a busy period.
Enjoyable wine tasting with good wines on offer.
    Worth popping in.

Looking for something a little different in wine country? Book a wine tasting at Luddite. It is a small wine farm in Bot River with a unique esthetic. Their motto says it all: "Technology and mechanization will never be a substitute for passion". We organized a private tasting for our group of wine lovers. The tasting room is unpretentious and quirky as is the decor around the farm. They sell tee-shirts and other branded gear as well as a few other products produced on the farm. They offer two lines of wine – Saboteur and Luddite. Our favorite was the Saboteur white blend which is excellent. We all ordered cases for delivery. They produce wine in limited numbers so snap it up if you see it or order it online.

The Houwhoek Hotel is a charming establishment at the start of the Houwhoek Pass. It can be seen as a twin establishment to the Houwhoek Farm Stall on the opposite side of the N2.

Some units have fire-places in and are set in the most beautiful natural surroundings. Food is reasonably priced and of good quality.

Staff is friendly and helpful, except that we did not get prompt assistance with the delivery of firewood and firelighters.

This unique little wine farm in close to Kleinmond where we were staying. Wine tasting was done in a pleasant reception room. The assistant wine maker came and had a chat. The lady presenting the wine tasting was knowledgeable and very proud of their wines. The wines themselves are delicious. Something for everyone. I particularly likes their Cabernet Franc. We were the only people tasting therefore had the place to ourselves. Very pleasant indeed. If you are in the area it is definitely worth stopping here.

On the Barton Wine Estate you were always able to taste and purchase Barton wines, however this has been replaced by the Villion Winery which makes wines under it's own brand. The wines are split into two ranges, namely their Lifestyle and Premium ranges including whites, roses and reds. Some of our group went for the Lifestyle range which has pirate inspired names and etiquette, and I went for their Premium range which all had wood contact and are a bit more "serious" wines. Those of the group that decided on the Lifestyle range thought it was a bit of a "hit and a miss" for them, but the Premium range I really enjoyed and recommend you try it when you visit. This boutique winery has an inside and outside seating area, and the lady that did our tasting was very knowledgeable.
