We travelled to South Africa specifically to see the wildflowers and this reserve certainly fulfilled our expectations. The map at the entrance is a bit difficult to work out and some of the boardwalks are in poor repair - as the ground was very wet this made several of them unusable. But the flowers were superb and having a small lake within the area adds to its scenic quality as well as variety of flora.

A few kilometres on your way to Darling off the R27 , you will find Tienie Versfeld Reserve. It's right next to the road & you can't miss it as there will always be cars standing there , during the flower season of course , Aug - Oct. The recent rains in the Western Cape has meant the flowers have opened earlier. We visited a couple of times between 9-11 Aug 2018 , don't be fooled by what you see from the road , you must walk through the reserve , there are many hidden little gems which you can only view from close up. It's a pleasant walk on a flat area with a couple of small ponds. You can't go to Darling without visiting this area & for nature lovers a must.

Thats what the wildflowers looked like...a beautiful carpet. This reserve is on the way into Darling and the ONLY one this year that boasted a profusion of wildflowers. We spent a good 2 hours photographing the flowers and enjoying the landscape in this very safe and beautiful environment.

The Tinie Versveld Reserve is a little gem if you are looking to see the Wildflowers blooming in the Western Cape, the reserve is on the road between Yzerfontein and Darling, its free to enter and takes about an hour to walk around if you go slow, there were a great variety of flowers to see , we really enjoyed our time there, great for photos as well.

Stumbled upon it whilst driving from langebaan to Darling.

Found the hills and ground overed in Canola and yellow, orange and purple flowers - amongst many others. Many walkways. Makes for beautiful photos too.

Worth the quick stop

The Tinie Versfeld wild flower reserve is open to the public free of charge throughout the year, but it is in August and September every year that the variety of Spring flowers are just breathtaking. Put on your Wellington boots, apply lots of insect repellent and walk into the reserve with all your senses wide open. Be prepared to go down on your knees to also appreciate the small treasures. Think small and look at small things! This year was no exception, and the highlight of my visit was the large number of Geissorhiza radians (Cup-of-wine).

What a beautiful vista! superior to Postberg in my opinion, the variety of flowers and plants were amazing and so pretty. A sea of blue flax interspersed with yellow daisies, small white anemones, so many different species. I just felt overjoyed when I was there.
