Historic Church Street Walk

Depending on your interest levels the tour can be as long as two hours, as I weave you through the history of the valley and the centuries of colonial development which came to create Tulabgh. The reconstruction of the street after the earthquake of 1969 will be unpacked in its sociology-political situation to understand why the street was restored as it was. Where possible we will go into some of the houses to understand the development of Cape vernacular architecture from 1745 to 1902.

Every part of this visit was our favorite part, and we were privileged that it was a rainy day and out of season, so there were few guests and we got some personalized attention, great conversation and we could ask loads of questions. The farm is beautiful, nestled against the mountain, the most beautiful building which reminded me of a palace inside. And the olives.... oh my the olives... olive marmalde, olive tapenade, fresh olives, different olive oil.... we just want to taste and we left with a bag full of goodies. It was most interesting to learn of olives and the production of olive oil. We will definitely support Oakhurst products on the shelves especially because of the quality and being proudly South African. A must do activity for adults!!!

Great service and products. If you are an olive fan, this is worth a visit. It’s situated at the end of a gravel road on a hill with a lovely view. You can see all the olive trees and vats. The tasting experience is very informative.
