Overview
What makes our product unique is there is none other like it currently available in the market. Our products are not cooked, contain no onions or added sugar. As it's made with fresh produce the taste is like no other! West Coast Chilli can be used as it is; as a marinade; a basting sauce or to mix up you dips and dressings. The longer it stands the better it tastes.

I'm a big fan of West Coast Chilli. Their sauces are permanently in my fridge and get added to everything from Salad Dressings, to home made Chillinaise and is regularly used to make an awesome chilli con carne. When they launched the Chilli Tasting Experience in collaboration with Thoban Chefs, I had to try it. You can see from the image that I'd opted for the vegetarian option, containing Rice Paper Maki, Crumbed Broccoli, Veggie Sushi Roll, Crumbed Mushroom (I substituted for Tofu instead) and veggie spring roll. There is a non-vegetarian option containing a Thai Chicken Ball in Batter, Crumbed Broccoli, veggie sushi roll, crumbed chicken and a Salmon Fishcake. Seating is provided in the Thoban Chef restaurant (inside or out), right across the passage from the West Coast Chilli Store, and service is from one of the restaurant waiters who are on hand to serve you a drink from the restaurant menu (drinks are paid separately) and take any special requests for your tasting. The Chilli and Tasting Platter arrived along with Andre, the master sauce maker and taster, who proceeded to describe each sauce and dish before tasting proceeded. We were then able to taste at our leisure, first pairing each sauce with it's accompanying dish, before mixing the sauces and dishes to educate our own palate on the importance of mixing flavours correctly. Each sauce was as distinct as the dish accompanying it. This is not just a chilli sauce with a base product and flavouring added. Each sauce is prepared to its own recipe, with its own set of ingredients and therefore its own characteristics. No sugar, onions or preservatives are used and a limited supply of each sauce becomes available based on availability of the fresh ingredients. After the tasting experience we progressed to the West Coast Chilli "Chilling" taste room where we found the available sauces as well as a whole range of local delicacies, from Olive Oils and Root Vegetable Crisps to West Coast Rooibos Teas and Vanilla Extracts. There we were treated to interesting stories of the products and the Chilli Sauce by Jean, whose mother's recipe was used to create the initial "Ma se Sous" that led to the creation of this artisanal brand, before we progressed with Andre for a quick visit to the Chilli Workshop, where we were able to witness the silent, cool environment in which the sauces are left to develop, until the sauce master deems them ready for bottling and shipping to their outlets across the country. We left feeling that the R100 cost of the experience was well worth it, and left them with recommendations to consider including a brief description and perhaps food pairing note paper for those who want something to take away.

What a pleasure! Chilli with a bit of a burn, Chilli with a burn, Chilli with a lot of burn! BUT with a unique taste. "Ma se sous", "Pa se sous", "Boetie se sous", "Sussie se sous", "Haibo", "Öoh la la". The owner, Jean - will take you on his very informative chilli making journey. No added sugar or onions - so healthy too! And the new product - Mild sauce - mix it with tomato sauce and slap chips - liplekker! Please visit them - it is definitely worth your time and money
