Loved it! At first we were not visiting as we visited loads; but finding Saschiz closed we decided to take the detour. The road from the southwest however is awful, a mess; you need to drive very slowly and carefully. The road by the north however was way better and crossed Hungarian minority villages.
The church is beautiful and has amazing mural paintings on the insides. As usual you can climb the bell tower.

UNESCO heritage site with a XV century depiction in fresco of the legend of St. Ladislaus fight with an cuman warrior.
The church is very well restored, with the exception of the non-historic tiles.
Picturesque rural village.

Slightly away from the beaten roads, this is a beautiful small unitarian church, nicely renovated, with a vibrant community still maintaining it. We were indeed lucky to get there just before a religious service and, even we understood very little as the service was in Hungarian, we still enjoyed every second. The children had fun in the little museum and seeing the ham. A good day out. This is a UNESCO protected sight and it is worth the title.

This fortified church is UNESCO site and well worth it. Beautifully restored frescoes and charming architecture. Very interesting the still living tradidion among the villagers to keep food provisions in the church courtyard. The legend of King Saint Laszlo is depicted on the murals. Not to miss this place!!!

Part of a short trip to visit few fortified churches of Transylvania, Darjiu Fortified Church was a pleasant surprise at the end of a country side road which seems not to end. The rehabilitation process was pending but we can visit it. We arrived right after Sunday's prayer. Sorry that we miss the chorus playing. Enjoy!

Today a Transylvanian UNESCO heritage site. A lovely church that is being renovated. At first it was Roman Catholic, with beautiful murals that are being uncovered after the Unitarians white-washed them. There is also a museum area with old farming equipment

A lovely and immaculate little fortified village church, less grand than the famous Saxon fortified churches, but maybe even more moving. Notice the community food storage spaces, the 'runes' and the ancient fresco of the story of St Lazlo. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
This was one of several beautiful Harghita fortified churches that I visited on a tour by taxi from Odorheiu. We also went to Enkala / Inlăceni and Mugeni. Not very expensive (the price to different villages from Odorheiu is fixed - and you can agree the price for a round tour on that basis), and the driver spoke English.
Be prepared to be asked by the guide or churchwarden at each church to contribute a little, for the upkeep and maintenance of the building.
