I’m not entirely sure why this would exist as a tourist attraction. It is simply, as the title states, a pair of Egyptian gates that people used to drive through, only now you have to drive around in order to get Pushkin and Catherine’s Palace.

You don't expect to find Egypt in Russia. Another example of Peter the Greats recreation of Europe in his home town.

Our tour guide pointed this to us. It looked like a very amusement park sort of structure. Our guide did not even point out the significance.

You pass by these gates on the way to Catherine's palace. We were told theses gates are made of metal and painted to look like Egyptian stone. Quite impressive.

The Egyptian gates come upon you unexpectedly. The griffon below the statues is very well made and the prevailing superstition that the wiping it brings luck also adds to the attractiveness of the site.

Your drive past this superb monument... as it is now a 'traffic island' as opposed to the actual gate in the Tsar's times when horse-drawn carriages could easily pass through. Just as you pass the gate you bear to the right to take you to...More

This place is still the main entrance to the Pushkin Town from the St.Petersburg highway. That was the first spot we saw when got by bus from St.Petersburg. It consists of the main iron gate, iron fences, cast iron columns and plates. The columns and...More
