As one of the most active volcanoes in the world, it's amazing to be able to access the site freely. Can be accessed from either St Pierre in the West or Ste Rose / St Benoit in the East. Not keen on the endurance hikes,...More

We did a few things wrong - we did not start early enough in the morning (we were there by 08:00); and the weather was against us. I was also not fit enough and really battled the last 20 minutes or so, to get back...More

We loved our trip to Piton de Fournaise. The drive to Pas de Bellecombe is long but a fascinating journey through the landscape, geology and climate zones as you wend through the different zones until you reach the volcanic plain. The section through the forest...More

If you stay in a hotel in Saint Pierre, prepare yourself for a long curvy drive up, the road is clearly not meant to hold lots and lots of tourists. If you have a minivan you often need to stop at narrow passages or tight...More

It gets pretty windy though we were warm enough in shorts and a coat. We did this in trainers…they just about held up until the end! Would highly recommend walking boots if you have them. Round tip to the summit and back to the carpark...More
