I had two two-hour rides with Harties Horse Trail Safaris (went back 2 days later since the first was so enjoyable) recently. I recommend paying the extra R150 for a private ride, especially if you know how to ride.
I'm an intermediate rider and the horses were decent and never felt out of control.
We saw lots of buck, zebra, giraffe, etc and had a few trots and canters.
I will definitely go back again when in the area.
One of the guides took his camera along and took quite a few nice photos which he sent me by WhatsApp.

I chose the sunrise 2 hour horse trail. It was a magical experience. My dream was to get close to Giraffe in the wild. I was so lucky to get within a metre of a herd of Giraffe grazing on leaves, as well as two baby Giraffe. Im a fairly proficient horse rider, but what I enjoyed most about this adventure was the fact my horse was so calm and loving. He did not bolt or get worked up near any animals, which allowed me to relax and enjoy the ride. My guide, a Zimbabwean gentleman was very friendly and knowledgeable about the habits of all the animals that we saw. It was like watching a National Geographic documentary.
The game reserve is also so peaceful and I felt really safe.
I would recommend this to anyone, whether you can ride or not, as it is on par with 5 star game reserves, but at a fraction of the price.
It feels like you are in deep Africa, but are only 1 hour from city of JHB.

We went on this wonderful journey on these amazing horses, together with our wonderful guide. What an experience, really wonderful.
The trail that we rode, all the wildlife that we saw, between all the buck, giraffes, and even a photo bomber ostrich.
Blessing, thank you very much for the beautiful photos that you took to make sure we remembered the magic.
Then just another thank you to the staff for the most delicious, beautiful and romantic picnic that was set up for us on our ride. You are so thoughtful for making everything so special.

Are you considering visiting this place? Well STOP considering. Just Go, trust me, you will not regret it.

My girlfriend made a spontaneous and yet doubtful visit after coming across the facility online.

From the moment we arrived and engaged with Manuel and Munyai, we knew that this was going to be the best part of our day.

The trail is amazing, the views are gorgeous, the animals along the trail make for some awesome interactions.

Our horses were Amigo and Lily.

Poor Amigo, he’s hearing is so sensitive such that when I scratched my head or pulled a leaf, he would dash off in full throttle. Beautiful horse!😍

A special shout out to Blessing for making the experience memorable. You are an amazing tour guide my brother. May God bless you!

I happened to be in Jo'Burg on business and wanted to do some riding before I left late evening. I'm an intermediate rider so enquired whether it would be possible to accomodate me on an appropriate horse for a half-day private safari. Beate could not have been more helpful and arranged to collect me from my hotel near OR Tambo airport. As I had the whole day, Beate kindly suggested that I ride at both La'WiiDA Lodge and Ostrich Manor, which was a lovely surprise for which I was most grateful. Upon arrival at La'WiiDA I was given water, assigned a lovely horse and introduced to my guide, Howard, who I found to be a happy, polite, friendly and helpful fellow. We set off and rode at a perfect pace to match my ability and the environment; getting into a fast canter where appropriate, but walking slowly to take in the wildlife we encountered along the way. This included Zebra, Giraffe, Springbok, Kudu, Wildebeest and many more - all of which we got very close to. We also saw lots of birds.

The experience was repeated when I arrived at Ostrich Manor, and Beate had prepared a nice picnic for me so I could refuel before my next ride. I rode another lovely horse and saw lots more wildlife. Beate then returned me to my hotel in time for my flight home, despite the rush-hour traffic we encountered along the way!

In summary, I can testify that both La'WiiDA Lodge and Ostrich Manor are excellent. Having the opportunity to see wildlife on horseback is a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend this to anyone staying in or around the Jo'Burg area - both venues are easily accessible. As a regular rider and someone who is used to being around horses, it is clear to me that these horses are much loved, well trained and properly cared for. There are horses to suit all abilities including those that have never been on a horse before, so this really is something anyone can do. The staff take pride in their work and obviously love their jobs. You will definitely be taken care of. Can't recommend highly enough!

Harties Horse Trail Safaris. The horse riding experience was nothing to ride home about. No pun intended. If you are sensitive to heat, dont be shy to request a short ride. The owners of the horse trail were not friendly at all, but the guides/staff were friendly and acccomodating.

But we had a picnic after our ride, and what a dissappointment!!!

The food was below marginal, the sausage rolls, vetkoek and mince were very cold and it seemed as if they had been prepared days before. The sandwiches were wet and stoggy. We didnt even touch the no name yogurt and the fruit kebab that looked like it was prepared a week ago.

My husband and I are not fans of sweet rose sparkling wine but that's what we were forced to drink, we didnt get the courtesy of being asked our preference. In a nutshell, stick to the horse ride but the picnic maybe not. The overall experience is not worth what we paid for.

Good day, Thank you for taking the time to place a review. We do however would like to make it clear that our picnic food is always fresh and freshly prepared, as we sometimes get picnic bookings very last minute it is therefore literally impossible for it to be a week or few days old..... We actually make very little profit on this as the costs on our side per picnic is very high. You mightve bought a voucher through a third party instead of booking directly by us, which means you would've then paid more than a direct booking would've been. We are sorry that you felt or thought differently but your claims on the food being old is just not the truth, we have never given clients old food, we don't warm it up in the summer, as like you said it is hot outside, we cannot regulate the heat outside, so yes it mightve been cold but definitely not old. All the best! Beate Ten Haaf

I went on the horse back riding safari with a friend and it was an experience of a lifetime. Their customer service was the best I've ever received. Their staff (Tapiwa & Emmanuel) were beyond friendly and helpful. Their horses are well trained and mine was very feisty and liked to lead from the front. She mimicked my personality and I deserve her. I'll definitely request for her again. I think her name was Claudine. We only booked for the 1 hour safari however we surely going back for the 2 hours.

I would like to extend my many thanks for the amazing experience .For first time riders this was the best without a single reason of doubt.

The place is beautiful and the horses are amazing and healthy they did not give us any problems more over they made us want to come back again.
The level of professionalism shown throughout was just striking .The romantic picnic was beautifully setup and layed out in such a way that one can never forget. They kept everything very secretive and played along with everything such that she had no idea of the surprise. There was just so much goodies in the picnic basket that made the experience worth it .My girlfriend had tears of joy.

I would also like to say thank you for the professional guide that was given by Eric .His energy ,knowledge and company was amazing. He was welcoming and warm and he made sure we understand everything about the horses and the trail and taught us a lot of things. On behalf of my partner and I, we would like to rate him a 5 star or 10/10 for his service as well as his friends that also formally introduced themselves and gave us a warm welcome and put us at ease with our fear we had for riding the horses.

Lastly the whole place is just amazing and it most certainly won’t be the last time you see us .We will make sure to come again even in larger numbers .

Anyone looking for a great place to enjoy life with reasonable pricing.I strongly recommend this place.

We went there for a horseback safari and it was great.
Horses are well trained and the women in charge was really nice.
Our guide, I can't remember the name but he was from Malawi, was very enthusiastic and explained everything really good. You could feel his passion for nature, his job and the animals.
We got to see plenty of animals on their habitat and got really close to them, as they see us as strange animals? thanks to the horse.

Definitely worth, will come back!

Honestly, the best one I’ve had so far. They were so nice to book us in last minute, literally 10pm the night before and arranged our transportation. Horses were very calm and great for first timers and non experienced riders. That’s Padi and he was so well behaved, I couldn’t believe.
