A treasure on our doorstep. 35 minutes from Midrand and Fourways. Breathtaking views and a nice albeit short trail with a bit of history

My daughter had just got her results that she had passed a Medicine Degree for Cuba, then I was in possession of two two tickets which I had reserved for my wife's birthday but as a present to the young lady we went to Harties. Our First stop was a boat trip around the Dam with brunch then, proceeded to to cable-way. I enjoyed that at the top, where we sat for drinks, you can see both CBDs of Johannesburg & Pretoria on a clear day, as was the case on our visit. It was enjoyable & i would do it again once more

Being inside the cable, what an experience for someone as scared of heights. Eating area and calming mountain top, for one to view the wonder of what if cable could not take us back 😅🤭😎😇🙏🙏👍👍Thx

A must do. It is a faultless and first class experience. Organised, clean, and novel. One travels up to the top in a small cabin where one can traverse the crown on the Dassie Walk with various stops for victuals or drinks as the mood demands. Signs detailing the views are provided which include very interesting facts so do linger a while to read them.

Do you need to book tickets in advance for the cableway, or are tickets available there?

Both options are available but I would suggest booking online if you intend visiting during a busy period.

Is there adequate seating and shade or should I bring an umbrella and camp chairs? Is it cold up there - going in August some time, and don't wanna freeze.

How long should I allow for a mid week visit to the cable car
Marius Schoeman
Centurion, South Africa147 contributions
If you travel from Pretoria you can get there under 1 hour. They should bot be as busy in mid week (unless public holiday) Allow for at least 1 hour in top. With the up and down trip allow 4 hours. Try to be there before 10:00 meaning you can leave Pretoria or Johannesburg after peak traffic and be back before afternoon traffic
