few railway paths can match this for its combination of splendid views, fascinating history, multiple access points and inter-connections.... all combined with being lightly used so you don't have to look over your shoulder all the time to avoid rapid cyclists!

First time for a wander up around here and parked in an easily accessible car park (one of many) and walked about a mile and a half up the track with my young family. This would be suitable for those in a wheelchair or with...More

If you start the walk at waskerly it is a pleasant down hill walk to lead gate and beyond, you can follow the path all the way to Washington if you want but it will take a couple of days to do it,

Not sure what else to say about this really. The length of the path that I've been on was well maintained and clear for cyclists and walkers alike. The views at times are obviously fantastic and I don't see how it could be improved.

We have done the cycleway in sections and completed this part from Consett. The incline at Waskerley is gradual, but against a strong wind was a much harder ride. Nevertheless it was most enjoyable with great views, the sweet smell of purple heather and the...More

Downhill West to east, ok in good weather. I would imagine a little too exposed if weather was to turn. Good café at Parkhead.
