Went on a boat trip to Fiskardo. Beautiful little place, easy to walk fro one end to the other. Saw the cemetery, very interesting.

Well preserved Roman burial chambers and tombs which were discovered by chance a little way back from the harbour with an information board. Definitely worth a look.

Partially destroyed cemetery dated between 146 BC – 330 AD was discovered in 2006 when building excavations found offerings of pottery, bronzes and jewellery in vaulted graves and a stone coffin. Five burial sites untouched by grave robbers with 27 tombs were found as well as a Roman theatre, a house and a bath complex. Nothing to look at today, but the history is important.

Fiskardo is the only community on the island not destroyed by the great earthquake of 1953 and is reported to be the most picturesque village on the island. We parked at the top of the hill and walked down the hill via the street. At Fiskardo, we spent about 45 minutes on our own, where we did some shopping and walked as far as the Roman Cemetery. It is certainly worth seeing if you are in town but not worth a special trip.

You will pass this on your way from the carpark to the village centre. No need to linger through apart from noticing it.

Worth a look if you're in Fiskardo - but don't go there just to see this! The signage is weather-damaged and needs replacing as it's illegible. Would be nice to know a bit more about it.

An interesting part of Fiskardo's history, looking sadly neglected.

The remains of the tombs themselves look to be in reasonable condition, there are two magnificent ones at the end of the lower section.

With a little TLC and some refreshed signage this would be much more of a draw away from the busy little harbour, a small place of peace.

Still worth a visit if you're at Fiskardo.

Stumbled upon this interesting little find by accident still exposed to the elements and free to respectfully look around. Someone important was buried here judging by the beautifully carved white limestone sarcophagus. The information boards need replacing they are difficult to read.

Other than the fact that it is old, there isn't a lot to say about this small, Roman find. If you pass it by whilst walking from the car park to the rather nice bar, you could pause for a couple of moments but that's about all.

Tucked away in a quiet spot just around from the harbour.
I was there very early morning with the sunrise, which added to the quiet atmosphere.

Just soak up the history...…………...
