The tour company took us on an unexpected, surprise visit to a distillery. Really, this is where I want to take my 12-year-old. In the spirit of learning about how things are made we watched the stupid movie and walked through the tour. None of the equipment was on so we really didn't get to see anything. Pretty much a waste of time. Beware of your tour company and unexpected visits to random places. If I liked whiskey it would be interesting but I don't. If it was a historically Japanese item like rice, chopsticks, even sake but nope, whiskey. I learned some stuff I had no interest in learning so I guess it was something. If my 12 year old needs to write a report on Japanese Whiskey he's got it covered.

We came to Gotemba using the train. 10:05 Kirin free shuttle picked us at the train station. We arrived there few minutes before our 10:30 tour. Signed up, got English audio device.
We were invited to wait in a room before the tour where few trophies are on display. The tour started on time, very informative. It was in Japanese, but the guide was very helpful and let us know which section to listen on the audio guide.
After the tour, the tasting... and the gift shop where you can buy whiskey, glasses, chocolates and other products.
Very nice visit, we appreciate the efforts to make the tour accessible to non Japanese speakers.

Though this tour is in Japanese, there is an English audio guide and information booklet. Our guide, Kobayashi-San was also excellent, she was very accommodating of the fact that we didn't speak any Japanese, extremely patient, and so friendly!
This is a large distillery, so it's fascinating to see inside the production and bottling facilities.
The whole tour lasted about 45 minutes, followed by a tasting session. The gift shop also has some great items, including unique glasses.

The Kirin Distillery lies in the shadow of Mt. Fuji and the site takes advantage of their excellent water. The area has a climate closest to that found in Scotland which fits their mission. Tours in English are available and you'll find your hosts most helpful and delighted to share their pride in what they produce. After the tour, you'll be treated to their tasting room which is the best part. If you find yourself enjoying their products, be certain to make your purchase, since you won't find this product available everywhere.

Amazing kind humble people, great whiskey, amazing views of Mount Fuji. The tour was in Japanese ( with English pamphlets) but I felt their passion and felt that I could understand everything

Great place to visit with a group or solo. If you do visit solo you will not be able to partake in the taste testing at the end of the tour. The tour is free, lasts 70 mins, and is in Japanese. The tour begins with an excellent video with subtitles. At the end of the tour you can taste two of their whiskeys for free. If you would like to taste more there is an additional fee. There is also a small gift shop where you can buy their products.

Stopped by this place on the way to Yamanakako for a overnight trip to see Mt. Fuji. This distillery is on the way from Mishima station. Easiest if you rent a car. They have “Free” tours and tastings too!!! If you are the driver...you get free non-alcoholic beverage. You can also buy souvenirs at the gift shop. All in all, great place to stop on your way to Mt. Fuji!

An interesting visit to the only whisky distillery in the world producing both grain and malt whisky. Very well done free tour in English of an enormous distillery with a chance to savour their products which are not exported except to France. Very pleasant and helpful tour guide.

We stopped in Gotemba to visit this distillery and overall it was worth it.
We got the bus there and back, 15 min each way from Gotemba and it stops outside the distillery. 370 yen each way.
The staff were very friendly and helpful on arrival and showed us to the roof for an excellent view of Mt Fuji.
The tour began with a video including English subtitles however after that it is solely in Japanese. The guide was very helpful however and answered any questions from us in English.
There is a tasting of two glasses included at the end and an option to pay for more tastings or buy bottles etc. in the shop.
Overall a very good tour bearing in mind that it is free. If you have never been to a distillery before or don't know the process, it may be uninteresting and confusing walking through the factory but for Whiskey lovers it'll be worth it.

Hi, how do visitors get to the Fuji Gotemba distillery? Would you recommend taking a taxi from Gotemba Station, or is the bus adequate? Is the distillery still open 9am to 430pm on Tuesday-Sunday?
Do you have any additional info that may be helpful?

We caught a taxi. It was easy and the staff at the distillery ordered a taxi for our return.
The staff were amazing there. I’m sure if you email to double check the hours they’ll assist you.
FYI - the outlet shopping place has a free shuttle from the station and actually gets a good view of the mountain (from the bridge to the second area in our experience)

Hi there,
I'm looking to head to Fuji gotemba distillery next week, but am having trouble finding out if it's necessary to book, could you help?
Thank you so much,
Daryl
Is it possible to make a reservation for the tour or can we only do that at the distillery in person on the day?
I can see a form online but it's only in Japanese with no English links as far as I can tell.
