The Pentland Firth is a notoriously bad stretch of water to cross, and I'd used the Scrabster ferry a couple of times before, and had been very ill, so we tried this as a shorter (and cheaper) crossing. We were lucky and had a smooth...More

We enjoyed our crossing to mainland Orkney. Our ferry boat experience was great. They efficiently loaded the ferry, the crossing was very smooth that day, and the disembarking was smooth also. They do serve food on board at a tiny cafeteria, but we didn't try...More

BE AWARE! I went to book with Pentland Ferries, but got auto transferred to AFerry (Also reviewed on TripAdvisor) who took my Credit Card details without revealing I had been transferred, or who they were. (Foolish I know, but I am 81 years old!) I...More

We had a lovely smooth crossing on the Pentalina. The boat inside is much to be desired though and although newish could do with modernisation. Strong smell of cooking in the lounge. Toilets weren’t the cleanest but overall nice journey and quick turnout in port.

If you are going to the Orkneys this trip from Gills Bay to St Margaret's Hope is short and with this being a catamaran it is more stable than normal boats. However, if you can, book in advance. We did and were so glad that...More

The journey itself was fab. A little rough due to the currents even on quite a still day. The real gem is the cafe at Gill's Bay. Fresh food prepared to order and great value for money. A must while you wait for your ferry.

Yes you can take dogs on the ferry. They must either stay in the vehicle on the car deck or they can be taken onto the top sun deck for the duration of the journey.
