Since this is a must visit places in Myanmar, we actually booked a driver through a friends' tour agency and we are paying much more because it is Thingyan festival. We left the hotel at 11pm, we reached the base camp at around 2+ am...More

The Golden Rock is one of those places which are far away, require a long travel time (around 4 hrs OW from Yangon) and there's NOTHING else around to see (except the town of Bago which is on the way, pretty interesting). BUT, it is...More

You reach this sacred place in the mountains only by truck (45 minutes drive). Our only regret was that we didn't book a hotel in the mountain ... as the last truck drive back was at 7 PM (and 6 PM during winter time). We...More

The rock is beautiful and very sacred for the locals so you will be packed with Burmese in the truck to climb the mountain that it is quite a funny experience. Not many foreigners (at least in March).

After a rather tedious drive from Yangon it takes another 45 min. on the bed of an open truck climbing up to the Golden Rock. Spectacular views - especially during late afternoon hours or at sunset will reward you for the long journey. Suggest to...More

Beautiful spot but unfortunately my father had his phone stolen from him here. None of the police were actually stationed outside, all were inside in their station so there was no one to help us catch the culprit who disappeared into the crowd. VISITORS PLEASE...More

I would sum up by saying that after a bit of an adventure getting up there this is a stunning place but I would have a couple of caveats. Firstly the rock itself is an amazing thing, bright gold and perched on the edge of...More

I was coming from Yangon and didn't want to rush away, so I decided to stay the night. It was difficult to find a place. You can't book ahead, and there are few places that accept foreigners. If they do accept foreigners, it is pricey!...More

Awe-inspiring place on the top of the mountain. I highly recommend the hike from the base camp. The sunset is lovely. Avoid public holidays as it can get crowded.

The Golden Rock is truly an amazing place to visit, not just for the uniqueness of the rock, but to watch the hundreds of devotees who visit. It is a different experience, especially the ride up and down the mountain in a covered truck.

From the truck stop you need to walk about 20min right to the rock. However, the temple entrance starts about 10 min from the stop. It was crowded and we walked slowly. It is a relatively flat walk and it is not a long... More

You really should go there, it is an amazing place. Now, taking roller package up there I am not sure. Travelling Myanmar is easiest with backpack.
